My internship experience at Texas Total Health has been a great learning experience. While interning there I had the opportunity to perform numerous tasks and jobs, which has helped me build on my nutrition experience. Before beginning this experience I was expecting to get the opportunity to work with clients and observe nutrition counseling in a real life setting. I also wanted to be able to practice creating client’s meal plans, and learn how a private nutrition business operates. On top of my expectations there was a job description of the intern position with many task to be performed over the semester. Now after recently completing my internship at Texas Total Health my experience did meet my expectations and the job description was accurate. …show more content…
This internship has giving me the chance to observe and witness firsthand the daily activates of a dietitian. Also I have seen how rewarding a dietitian’s career can be in helping others obtain their goals for a healthier life. Over the semester I was able to watch one successful client lose over 25 pounds and reverse her prediabetes health parameters. This has truly shown me that this is the right career for me because I want a job that I can help other. Before I started this internship I wanted to observe nutrition counseling and learn how to effectively use it. Another goal I had for my internship was to practice the nutritional skill I acquired in my undergraduate curriculum. Over the semester I was able to practice menu planning, observe nutrition counseling, nutrition assessment, and create nutrition education handouts. This internship has also, reinforced my dream and goal of owning my own nutritional business. Being able to experience the entrepreneurial aspect of a dietitian with Texas Total Health has taught me so much and opened my eyes to what I need to do to obtain my goal later in life. I didn’t truly have a perspective of all the work you have to put into your own business until this internship. One thing that could be improved was the varying schedule for each week. Every week Kelsey and I would have to compare our schedules to determine which days and time I could come in. Kelsey’s schedule would vary a lot because of her contracts with hospitals, and sometime she would have last minute meetings that would conflict with our already planned schedule. This would cause us to have to reschedule and cancel coming into the office that day. One other aspect that could be improved is being able to attend hospitals with Kelsey. This would greatly add to the internship experience by bringing in the clinical aspect of her business for us to learn from. During the internship we actually discussed trying to do this but there were issues with the hospital and school that prevented me from going to the
When I first began college I was unsure of what career path I wanted to pursue, but I knew whatever I chose would lead me to a challenging and rewarding career. My first semester I enrolled as a biology major because of my interest in science and desire to work within the health care field. This same semester I also happened to be taking a nutrition class as apart of my general education, and I was introduced to the science of nutrition. As the semester progressed my passion for nutrition grew, while the feelings of uncertainty I had about my future career path began to dissolve. I was drawn to nutrition once I began learning about the effect that food has on our health, and realized I could help people suffering from diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, which are so prevalent today. I knew that choosing to major in dietetics was going to require an immense amount of hard work and dedication, but I decided to accept the challenge and pursue a career in dietetics.
My internship experience proved to be valuable in terms of exposure and knowledge. Attending the M-1 Rail Community Advisory Council meetings were very rewarding. I was able to observe and interact with the public on their thoughts about M-1 Rail. The internship has taught me that it is important to learn how to demonstrate professionalism but courteous behavior at all times. My internship has definitely given me a better understanding of my skill, but most importantly, I’ve come to learn that I am not alone. This job has taught me that almost everybody is in my same position. Thanks to my I know that if I continue to work hard things will fall into place. Being my first position in an office atmosphere, I didn’t know exactly what to expect.

The goal of the internship was to complete a 150 hours and provide a weekly summary of activities. In order to get the internship I had to do a phone screening with Mary Doe. She is the administrative assistant to Commander John Doe. Who is the Assistant Associate Director of Facility Support and also the internship supervisor for the SIU Health Care Management students at FHCC. I meet with CDR John Doe for a brief interview. We went over my goals and what I hope to gain by interning at FHCC. I felt interning at FHCC would be a natural transition because CDR Wallis has a background in Healthcare Administration.

During the summer of 2015, I interned at a local doctor’s office. My passion for working in the medical field grew tremendously. I absolutely loved the experience I received and I also got offered a job after the internship was completed. Even though I was unable to accept the job offer because of furthering my education and because of my current job, I knew my hard work and dedication had paid off. I believe my education and the experience I received has provided me with a phenomenal introduction to the heath care field.
The main task of my internship was to gain more experience and knowledge of our respective field. Overall, the experience proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding. During this internship I used the skills that I learned from my Medical Assistant class and used them in the real world scenarios at the hospital. Also while I there I was exposed to new experiences. Such as performing Urine test on Drug and alcohol patients. For this procedure I had to stand in the restroom with the patient's and watch them urinate into a cup. I had to stand in the restroom with the patients because in the past they try and cheat the system. For example
My post secondary goals are astonishingly important to me because they ultimately shape my life and future career I wish to pursue. There are countless goals that I not only yearn to accomplish, but aspire to accomplish. My plans for my post secondary education is to attend a four year university to earn a bachelor's degree. From there I plan to attend medical school to work directly towards becoming an emergency physician. This internship will aid me in achieving my goals as It will grant me the opportunity to have background foundational information about the medical field, moreover consequently permitting the gain of familiarity of a health care provider career. If granted the opportunity the internship can teach me varies skills and abilities
Although this internship was great and I loved the majority of it, there were times where not everything would make sense to me. When those times came Sandie was generally very helpful and able to help me. When she was not around another member of the staff would generally help. There were a few times where there was nobody to ask a question to and I just had to try to figure it out on my own. One of those times happened when I had to use a fat loss monitor at the gym for the partner up challenge. I had never used the one here before and did not know exactly how it worked. I did not realize that I was going to be doing it on my own at the time either so I was not as prepared as I should have been. It took ten minutes to figure out how to work the machine and that one of them was broken. I felt unprofessional and I am sure I looked unprofessional as well. In the end everything turned out well, but at the time it was quite difficult because nobody was around to help and I was stuck trying to figure it out. This is one place better communication from everyone, including me, would have helped this troubling situation resolve easier.
For health 490, I am seeking to get an internship that will help cultivate certain aspects of my personal, academic, and career development. When considering my personal development, what I strongly want to improve upon are skills such as leadership capabilities, public speaking, and health communication. I am also seeking for a boost in my confidence in regards to my overall competency and knowledge base in the health field. My self-assurance will not simply stem from the education I gained at Maryland, but will also depend heavily on the first-hand experiences my internship will provide. By exuberating more confidence, I will be able to become more of an effective leader, which will in turn make me successful in my field of work. The target
Currently, I am a sophomore studying Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Nevada, Reno. As a college student, one of the most important aspect of my education career is to gain different kind of experiences from opportunities that are offer at the university. Personally, I believe that completing a paid, local internship can give students, such as myself, the chance to gain valuable work experience and build networks and connections, while applying knowledge and skills in real life settings. Every type of experiences that exist, such as internships, offer me the chance to enhance my strengths, understand the world around me, and to push myself in continuing to develop as an individual to become successful in life. For example, I was selected as an art intern for the Summer Business Institute Program in Summer 2014. Throughout the eight weeks of exploring to arts, I had an opportunity to work with a team of artists to create a mural and an art piece for two local community centers in Las Vegas as well as organizing a civil engagement project for a neighborhood that have families who are in need of financial aid. As a result, we were thanked by the families to sponsor an event for their children to enjoy art for a day. Reflecting back on
This reflection acts as my fourth reflection since I have started my internship at Comfort Dental under the Guidance of Dr. Trino Nuno. The semester is coming to an end, and I have enjoyed my time at Comfort Dental., I previously had a clinical and administrative internship at Smile Works Dentistry in Rockwall, Texas and I can now tell you that my experience at these two dental practices was incredibly different. At Smile Works, I quickly got used to the way the practice was run because it was not that complicated and I only had one doctor’s schedule to manage. However, at Comfort Dental I still struggle with managing day-to-day functions. The reason I struggle is that Comfort Dental has three doctors and a lot more staff. Also, the computer system that I mastered at Smile Works is not the same computer system that they use at Comfort Dental. I got the chance to use all to same skills in this internship. I answered phones, checked that patient’s insurance plans are eligible to be billed and scanned paper documents into a hard drive.
