The opening to Selena Gomez’s video is an establishing shot of her on a wide mountain road riding a bike to school. This shot is utilized to establish the 70’s era the music video takes place in. The establishing shot also shows that Selena is poor and abnormal since she lives in the mountains and does not drive a car to school, despite the cheap prices of cars in the 70’s. The alienation of Selena can also be observed through eyeline matches when she walks down the hall. The audience sees what she sees then the camera refocuses on her. This temporal continuity includes many people looking with displeasure at her based on the way she is dressed, how she arrived to school, and where she lives. There is also some collision of shots during the chemistry class which makes the audience guess who or what Selena is focusing on. This discontinuity creates misleading information in these shots which leads the audience to engage and wonder who Selena is so enthused with. The misleading idea is only resolved at the very end, resulting in the audience’s engagement for the entire duration of the video. …show more content…
There is also a crosscutting scene when Sherlock is proposing to the female protagonist while the antagonist is buying the same girl a present. This discontinuity is utilized to establish the conflict between two men of different economic standings. The director successful engages the audience’s emotions when the wealthier man buys the woman a more expensive present effortlessly, while Sherlock must use his last dollar on the gift. The ability for the audience to see these two scenes happening simultaneously allows for an opinion or side to be chosen which contributes to the successfulness of the film to keep the audience
The main character in the film “Selena” is a woman named Selena. Everyone else in the movie is a sub character that plays off of the role of Selena. The movie is about Selena’s life and the movie begins with her as a little girl and ends with her as a Mexican-American pop star loved by both the Mexican and American communities. Selena goes from being a young girl who’s band is compromised of her brothers and sisters to a mega star known by fans all over the world. As Selena became more successful she faced many obstacles in her career. First, Selena had to learn Spanish in order to sing in Spanish to connect with the Mexican community as her father felt she had the best chance to make it big if she tried to appeal to the Mexican community. Once she became a huge star with her Spanish singing music, she then did a crossover album in English, which helped to make her a pop star worldwide. Since Selena was Mexican-American, not Mexican, it was an obstacle for her to be seen as authentic by the Mexican community. Selena’s second big obstacle was that she was a woman. Mexico is traditionally a male dominant society and before Selena there had never been a Spanish singing female to evolve into a superstar. In the movie, Selena overcomes both of these obstacles and she does become one of the greatest
He starts off with a medium shot of the individual in the center of the screen; they start rapidly listing off racial slurs and stereotypes and the camera zooms in which emphasizes how violent it is. By the end of the rampage, the shot is an extreme close-up of the character’s face and you can feel the anger and hatred they have for that particular race. The climactic buildup at the end of the film was full of canted angles, shadowy lighting, dozens of fast shot/reverse shots that in full only lasted less than two minutes. The scene at the end of the movie, the hierarchy of confrontations and tensions between the characters, is a canted low angle shot of Radio Raheem and Buggin’ Out after they stormed into Sal’s Pizza Shop makes them appear more powerful and intimidating than Sal. All the shots of Sal are a counterclockwise tilt high angle, causing him to look inferior. The quick cuts back and forth between the two gives the film a sense of the tensions and anger. It is not until Sal rises up to the plate and smashes the radio, that he is being filmed at a leveled angle to show that he is not inferior anymore, but at the same
also makes use of discontinuous editing, in a sequence that finds the projectionist/Sherlock Jr. sweeping outside a movie theater. After he sweeps and straightens a sign, the film suddenly employs an unanticipated straight cut to the projectionist walking up to a store. The projectionist is wanting to buy something he doesn’t have enough money for, then, after realizing he is short of funds, another quick straight cut shows him sweeping the movie theater again. In this instance, discontinuous editing is utilized to build on the narrative of the movie; following his encounter at the store, the projectionist is searching for the money he needs inside the pile of trash he was

In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne often demonstrates the frailty of humans. Nature is often described as beautiful, while the Puritan society and human nature are viewed in a harsh light. Richard Van Camp's, The Lesser Blessed, contains elements that classify the novel with both Indigenous and Modern genres. Featuring both genres in a text can lead to contradicting themes that form a binary. This binary has the potential to limit the extent readers can connect to the story, suggesting the presence of a barrier. Barriers hinder the readers' lack of understanding or relatability to either Indigenous or Modern works of literature. This paper will serve to analyze how Richard Van Camp deconstructs the binary by having the sides work together rather than against one another. Furthermore, this paper will discuss how by breaking down the binary, Richard Van Camp is allowing his novel to be accessible to all readers.

Abraham’s passion for music never died. He would teach her older brother and sister how to play instruments. She felt left out because she was the only one that didn't play any instrument so, she questioned her dad why he didn’t let her sing and he would say that the reason was because she was simply too small. That’s when, Selena proved her dad wrong. She showed him what she was capable of, so she began singing. Her dad couldn't believe how beautiful she sounded. That’s when Abraham saw that selena had a great talent. Her dad made Selena practice almost every day with her brother and sister. When Selena was nine, Abraham, started the group “ Selena Y Los Dinos “ meaning Selena and the guys. The band featured her sister Suzette on the drums
Although Truman Capote conveys the town of Holcomb to be a placid area, Capote’s primary desire is to exploit it as a perilous place; therefore, he asserts that evil acts can corrupt the most perfect of places.

This helps add to the show's overall theme and mood.
In chapter one, "Mr. Sherlock Holmes," the author introduces us to the Sherlock Holmes, while describing his abilities and comparing him to Mr. Watson. Watson serves as Sherlock’s' sidekick but he does more than that. Watson reflects Holmes' brilliance—as Holmes himself says, "in noting your fallacies I was occasionally guided towards the truth." Watson offers up his theory as to the where the walking stick comes from, declaring that the inscription, "To James Mortimer, M.R.C.S., from his friends of the C.C.H.," suggests an elderly doctor who was awarded the object after years of faithful service. Holmes encourages Watson's speculation saying that the well-worn stick implies a country practitioner who walks about quite a bit. Also, the C.C.H.,
The video starts with a flash of white light (key light), close-up on syringes and the main character in the video. The singer may be seen in a vast mountainous area. The light represents the dominant light source in the scene. (Jackson, 2010, p. 196) It seems to be a signifier of the importance of the person who is in the middle of action. A big number of quick zooms indicates both him and mentioned in the beginning of the paragraph objects. It leads to conclusion that they may be considered as keynotes in the music video (Jackson, 2010). The syringes filled with a liquid that may be considered as a kind of drug, which is present in the whole video. It leads to a conclusion, which may suggest that drugs are synecdoche that represents a wide range of harmful
In all of Sherlock Holmes mysteries he uses observation and deductive reasoning to figure all of them out.
Ok, truth be told, I had never read any books before I start reading the book Sherlock Holmes. I was looking for a way to develop my linguistic skill, some of my friends suggested reading books would help a lot. I decided to give it a shot. I haven't had interest in reading some random books, I wanted something exceedingly interesting and equally mysterious. I was discussing about my idea with my dad, he suggested reading "Sherlock Holmes". That's how, I came to know about the book "Sherlock Holmes". I was amazed by the way Sir Arthur Conan Doyle carried the stories. The Authors who had written romantic stories might have fallen head over heels for a guy/girl, the stories they heard from their friends/neighbors, happened in their friends/neighbours lives might have inspired them and provoked them to write romantic novels. The Authors who had written their own biography, perhaps spent some time alone recollecting their good old memories, their achievements, their hurdles and how they had successfully managed to cross the hurdles along the way to success. And, the authors who narrates fables might have either spiritually inspired or motivated by certain people who devoted their entire lives for others or by particular religion. Another some categories are the authors writing thriller and detective novels. I was wondering about the authors who writes detective and crime stories. what could have inspired them to write such kind of novels, had they experienced any exciting
The movie is significant for the cinematograph, because it is not only “running against the dominant American politics of the time, rife with suspicions of anything vaguely socialist, but it is also engaging with issues of women’s rights and female equality, that literally had not been documented in film before” (rohanberrywriter). The unity of people was shown before strikers agreed that women can cooperate with them in the scene, when Quintero was arrested because of the police provocation. Esperanza gave birth while her husband was beating by policemen, and couple thought about each other during these painful moments. The message and symbolism of these events were highlighted by the montage technique that alternated Esperanza’s and Ramon’s (husband) faces. The director Herbert J. Biberman also preferred to frame actors in stylised close-ups. The camera was either tilted upward or looked down upon characters in the most scenes. “The camera only enters into medium shots when there is a sense of parity amongst the people framed” (rohanberrywriter). Camera’s low-angled position during scenes of Esperanza’s and Ramon’s household work highlighted future narrator’s words that people’s work should make them feel they move up in the world. The same technique was used in Nazi propaganda
