Hi Everyone! I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving holiday! This week’s discussion topic was very interesting to me as I am a musician myself and have mixed feeling about the gray area with royalty and the legality of it. After listening to the recording, I believe it was used hundreds of times for two reasons. One bringing that it contained different elements that was not seen during that time period. But mainly it was used hundreds of times because it was a “sample”. This means that the recording artist did not have to pay commission for another drummer to perform the same solo. Since sampling has a lot of gray areas to many people can seem like stealing. I often think sampling is shady and not original (which I personally think it is).
I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving break! I am contacting you regarding my grade in your class. I am concerned, because I know that getting into the RAD TECH program is extremely difficult, and that they are definitely looking for the top students to let into the program. I have been striving and working hard to get an A in your class, however, as of now I have a high B. I am worried because I have heard that only a 4.0 is acceptable for getting into the program. I am freshly out of high school, and just graduated this past June, so I still have time to look into a different program, or possibly transfer to OCC if you think getting a B will ruin my chances of getting into the program. I am determined to

Plagiarism is defined as, “An act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization” (“plagiarism”). Plagiarism is unacceptable, it is the intentional act of stealing something that someone else has put time and effort towards. This means that in music and poetry there must be a fine line between what it means to plagiarize and what it means to sample. However, since there is a fine line, sampling at times comes close, but is not plagiarism. Although sampling is the use of someone else’s work, it is used in a way that passed down the original artwork to future generations, proper sampling respects the original artist by using creativity to enhance the sample,
On this day streets are filled with masked people in outrages colorful costumes. Feathers as well as gold, purple and green seem to be just about everywhere people look. Beads are thrown high into the air from elaborate creative floats while people try desperately to be the lucky ones who catch these festive beads. While confetti falls down from the sky and the bands march through the streets filling the city with music as the crowds of people dance. New Orleans, the city that lets the good times roll is where the biggest party in America, also known as Mardi Gras takes place.
Sampling is a technique that many artists have used for decades, when given the opportunity to record a new track. Sampling has transformed the music industry, by allowing an artist to broaden their horizons, and give people the ability to have a different outlook towards a particular song. Often times when a producer is trying to assist the artist or group, they will present the artist with many beats and mixes. Of the beats and mixes provided, a few of them may be a sample of another artist’s work. Often times when an artist or group admires the work of another artist, they will get their permission to sample their music and incorporate into the work that they are about to produce. Another reason an artist may decide to sample the work
Transition: With all holidays come celebrations, let’s talk about the festivities that helped shape Halloween today.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and took a moment to pause and think of all the people who passed away in service of their country. Summer is officially here and I hope you all have some fun plans with your family or friends. This edition I wanted to talk a little about making proper food choices. Don’t let your backyard BBQ plans or your summer trip get you off track. Remember to stick with those good habits you have developed. If you do find yourself needing some assistance you can always contact us to make an appointment with one of the dieticians, the social worker or plan to come to any of our support group meetings. Happy Summer.
Anyone can eat soul food on any particular day of the year. However, it is something distinctive about preparing and eating soul food on Thanksgiving Day. Soul food is considered to be fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, breaded fried okra and yams. The preparation and consumption of soul food have been a staple in my family’s tradition for many generations. Perchance the food tastes better because of the cool crisp air, or maybe it’s the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. I honestly don’t know why, but I feel like this should be a paten scientific theory. Everything just feels right on this day, as if the world halts for a split second and it is at harmony. Possibly that is why the food is cooked to perfection. Even the process of preparing the meal is practically better than eating the food.
Lii Harris Halloween is a fun festive night that everyone loves. Little kids are trick or treating, teens throwing parties, parents passing out candy, and best of all people being scared to death! Winter Summers is a 13 year old, who lived in a small town in Connecticut. Winter was an ordinary young girl.
Music is a unique way of expressing one’s self, though ideas can become recycled and borrowed by other artists. These days, a particularly older person could hear a newly-released song and find the music to be familiar. An artist can simply borrow the music from an older song and then incorporate it into a new song of their own. Many artists and songwriters nowadays use this technique in their own music. Say an older person was to hear the smash hit “Shape of You” by songwriter and singer Ed Sheeran. They would hear a song that they once treasured from their days in the club. The song “No Scrubs” by a high-selling music trio of the 1990’s, called TLC, once wrote a song that contains that same music. This is a perfect representation of the idea of reused music.
A huge turkey piping hot on the middle of the table surrounded by stuffing, mash potatoes, cranberry sauce, bread rolls, and corn on the cob. I always thought everyone had the same type of Thanksgiving. Where everyone gets their turkey, drowns the turkey in gravy, and sits down to watch the football game. Too my surprise, that isn’t how it is for my classmates. I realize now that Thanksgiving varies in every household
Then you can manipulate in many ways to create new sounds. For example as shown in 5m 38s, this create a whole new varieties of songs like “Nutta” Uk apache and Shy- fx and “New Style” L Double and Younghead. It’s very interesting to me how one piece of music can have such a ripple effect that can create new varieties of music like Jungle. Even though the Amen Break has changed, I think you can still recognized the sample, because you can still hear the same instruments in the new music that you hear in the original as heard in 5m 27s. The sample in 5m 27 sounds more chopped or separated which makes it sound slower but also adds more changes. Similarly, in 5m 38s the sound is unique, but still holds some of the instruments and musical elements. I think the Amen Beat was such an inspirational sample because it led to the creation of new
The truth behind the tradition is surprising. Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims seem to go together, but the truth is, the Pilgrims never held an autumnal Thanksgiving feast. However the Pilgrims did have a feast in 1621, after their first harvest, and it is this feast, which people often refer to as "The First Thanksgiving". This feast was never repeated, though, so it can't be called the beginning of a tradition, nor was it termed by the colonists or "Pilgrims" a Thanksgiving Feast. In fact, a day of thanksgiving was a day of prayer and fasting, and would have been held any time that they felt an extra day of thanks was called for. Nevertheless, the 1621 feast has become a model that we think of for our own
Thank you for the Thanksgiving dinner last night! That was a really great dinner. I enjoyed it a lot. Sorry for interrupting your conversation to go home early last night. I usually go to bed around 11 pm and wake up at 6:30, so 10 pm was a bit late for me. That was fun to learn how Chinese think about their government. I have some friends (and my first roommate) from there. A few of them are just like Pengcheng, knowing almost nothing about how the government works (especially those not coming from the coastline cities). But my friends from larger cities, like Wuhan or Beijing, prefer democracy better. They never use reasons like "China is too big to have democracy" to rebut the idea, and they often times complain about human rights in China
