The difference between the child protagonists and adult antagonists throughout this novel is the generation gap and how adults are coping with danger and survival in the eerie, post-apocalyptic atmosphere differently to the teenagers. Ben is a very interesting character as he can telepathically talk to animals. Ben ensured himself that he will not use this special power after he ran away from Greg who forced him to so he could kill them for the food and skin. As a result, Ben is more vulnerable without this power as he has nothing to defend himself with. Molly, the gang leader is another character who has been detailed effectively. Kelleher describes her as demanding, daunting and powerful character as she forces Ben into doing things. Kelleher describes Greg as greedy as he only uses Ben for his special power so he can keep the dead animals skin for
However, they also have strong differences. Bryon is a big hustler. He tries to get money by playing pool at bars. Mark, on the other hand, is a thief. He sneaks around picking pockets and stealing money from people. Even though both boys have fun fighting and stealing, Bryon starts to see that fighting people for no reason is wrong. Mark still thinks stealing is enjoyable and amusing. Mark is very conceded and only care about himself and his feelings. Unlike Mark, Bryon cares about other people's emotions and thinks before he acts. Characters: Although there were a reasonable amount of characters in the story, there were only two that were important and consistent throughout the book. The others didn’t have much of an impact into the story.

Well in the back of the book they tape a 100 dollar bill to the last page. When the Redskins bring the player in to interview them they ask if they read the playbook. Of course most of them say yes, but when told about the 100 dollars they confess that they really did not read the whole thing. But when Bo was asked about the 100 dollars he said “oh ya, good one guys, good one”, he was caught in a lie but would not admit to lying. At the party in which Frank gets drunk and begins to make comments she laughs it off as if it is all just a joke. She pretends that because he is drunk she doesn’t care, but she knows that there is truth in his drunken speech. Perhaps because she pretends to not care, it makes her feel less badly about it, as the book suggests in the experiment done by Ekman. This also occurs it seems whenever anyone brings up Cathy’s kind nature toward black people in general. Whether it be the magazine article in the beginning of the movie or when Eleanor confronts her at the end, Cathy always say’s verbally and facially that the allegations are ludicrous. By the end of the movie, it is obvious that the allegations are far from ludicrous and Cathy has realized this as well. Through her staunch denials, she probably convinced herself even for some time that she had no feelings for Mr. Deegan.
