Nearly a sixth of the world’s population are Christians today. It has a very important history to its believers and it has changed throughout thousands of years to become the most famous world religion there is today. Christianity did not start off as a well known and popular religion. It started off with one person and that person is Jesus Christ. Jesus was the son of the Virgin Mary and her husband Joseph. History shows that Jesus is the son of God: The Gospels say that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, who conceived him through the power of the Holy Spirit. He was born in Bethlehem and brought up by Mary and her husband Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth. When Jesus was about 30 years old, his ministry began with his baptism by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. After this he went into the desert to fast and prepare himself spiritually for the work ahead. After 40 days in the wilderness, he was tempted by the devil but resisted. His ministry lasted only three years, but in that time he became a charismatic teacher and healer, impressing people with his goodness, gentleness, and strength.
