This week in the book The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, by John C. Maxwell, I read about the Law of Priorities. This law centers around the idea that to be effective a leader must be able to prioritize elements in level of importance. The chapter explains the belief that activity alone is not accomplishment; a leader must be able to constantly be looking ahead and this requires prioritizing so the focus remains on the items that are most important. Maxwell demonstrates the significance of establishing priorities through the use of personal narratives and those of prominent leaders. The narratives explain to the reader the success that can be obtained through proper understanding the Law of Priorities and implementing them daily.
While reading this chapter I focused on a few areas that I felt were critical to successful leadership. Afterwards, I thought about these areas in depth from my own leadership stance. Additionally, I researched and read a few more articles dealing with these direct concepts they included: the concept that activity is not

Wright tasked me with recovery of delinquent accounts on large jobs this week in relation to my third objective. Phone calls to delinquent accounts usually happen after a service has gone 15 days past due. At five days past due we send out a friendly email reminder of the due date of the payment. After, 10 days we send out yet another email that asks them to call us at their earliest convenience. However, after 15 days we start calling the customer to obtain the payment. I had three large jobs to try to obtain payment from and two small jobs. I was able to obtain a payment from two of the large jobs. I then documented in the computer system on the accounts the notes pertaining to the delinquent calls. Mr. Wright checked these notes on Friday afternoon. He reminded me at that time that I needed to document the date and time of the call, incase we ever need a record of attempts to obtain the

This week explored and learned that there are desirable leadership traits to acquire, that becoming a leader can be a conscious process and that being a leader also means to owe respect and have a responsibility to others.
For those long overdue outstanding that are not eligible for any financial assistance, after ample time of calling up the financial contact of the clients, sending out statement of the accounts and reminder letters, if the financial contact still failed to make payment for the outstanding, the cases will be refer to the debt collection agency. The successful debt recovery rate is high resulting in reduces of bad debts.
Abstract: There are numerous definitions of leadership, all of which contain elements related to people (the leader and the follower(s)), communicating in person or by the written word, actions (organizing, directing, coaching, and/or motivating), and for a purpose (meeting a goal(s) or accomplishing a task(s)) (ADP 6-22) (Fisher 2015) (Bolden 2013) (Hogan 2005). Additionally, everything done occurs within a given context. Effective leaders are poised, proficient, pertinent, and practical in the application of the art of leadership. This means leaders are ready to engage the group with effective methods and
I owe a Dillard’s credit card, I understand that part of my responsibility is to pay in full or minimum payment by the due date. I was not aware of any minimum payments due, in part, because of he small amount owed. The total amount due was $243 with a minimum payment of less than $40.00. I missed the payments not because I didn’t have founds necessary but because such a small amount that it went unnoticed, through my fingertips. As a military family and due to a PCS move this pass year has been very challenging for my family and me. This does not justify the late payments on my Dillard credit card, but as human beings we all make mistakes. I assure you that I’m taking the necessary precautions that will prevent these incidents. We will pay
To begin with, the authors are crystal clear when it comes down to laying out the blueprint the requirements needed for a successful leader. Stepping into any profession requires patience and clear thinking. The authors mention “taking a minute out each day of your leadership can really make a difference between a good and a bad leader”. Throughout the book, the authors step into depth explaining why it is necessary for the leaders to take just one minute out of their day to notice any noteworthy changes in relationship within the firm. By being packaged in the box the entire day and not thinking and stepping out the box, it can cause delays in work and/or possibly an unsuccessful firm. The authors move on to speaking about the different levels of management and the flexibility that occurs at those various levels.
Before going through this journey of self-discovery, my view of leadership was accurately described by John C. Maxwell “ Leadership is influence.” (Maxwell, para. 25, 2012). I believed, before taking this class and Northouse’s (2013) assessments, leaders were defined by the extent to which they could influence others to achieve company goals. I thought that, when discussing leadership, the leader was the most important aspect of the leader-member dyad and that it was the leader who had the greatest influence over how successful the organization was. Leaders themselves, in my view, should have been the focus of leadership studies and it should have been up to the leader to develop his/her skills in
In Leadership 101 by John Maxwell, the author uses practical application points to give guidance on what it takes to be good leader. The book is divided in three parts, linking the development, traits and impacts of a leader, with a series of questions that the author answers. He also uses real-life stories and quotes from leaders such as the McDonald brothers and Princess Diana, to demonstrate leadership principles. The author also uses these examples and a detailed framework to help the readers enhance the leadership abilities they already possess. Maxwell suggests that in order to be a successful leader you need to; Follow your vision and bring others with you, produce a lasting legacy, grow the loyalty of your followers, make continual
After watching the 21 Irrefutable Law of Leadership, I learned about the different characteristics and styles of what makes a good leader. The leadership laws that I found to come naturally to me was influence, addition and connection. The speaker in the video states that leaders with influence skills are able to get people to participate and follow them naturally. (Maxwell, 2014). This statements connects with me because in my leadership job at the moment I use my knowledge and abilities to get people to participate alongside me in my department.
Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my self-assessment compares to the perception of others.
Although this is a bit if a stretch, you get the idea that getting money owed is not a simple task.
One of the biggest lessons learned from this course is that to be an effective leader, you must have a diverse skillset. I’m not sure if there is any one magical component or characteristic in being a great leader. One influence during my review of the literature was that; although easier for some, I see leadership as something we must continually improve upon. This is in contrast to my belief during my first day of class, when I thought leaders just
The telephone rings. It 's one of those collection calls we all have gotten at least once (if not more). “You owe a debt”, the ominous voice on the other end of the line says. “How will you pay it?”
The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership was written by John C. Maxwell, who is an author, speaker, and a pastor. I found his take on leadership to be interesting, as he believed that leadership is leadership, no matter what context. The laws are similar no matter what realm they will be applied in. He successfully demonstrated how his laws apply in leadership in all forms, whether it is in church or in politics, in history or in sports.
