Pam Smith August 4, 2014 Personal and Professional Success Application of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People DHYG 164 Health Professions Team Building The ability of a person to work well with team members is the foundation of any good work environment. Understanding one’s role as a member of a team, and then using that role to enable the team to be productive is of great importance. Personally, understanding my own strengths and weaknesses is the key to being able to develop as a team member. I feel we need to know where we come from, what we value, how we interact with others and what we can contribute before we can know how and where these attributes can be applied. Learning about personality types and how each of the different personalities requires the others to be effective was a great insight for me. Not only does this translate to how people interact with each other, but how we make decisions and show leadership. That being said, someone can’t expect to work as a team if there is no effort applied. Being proactive in completing tasks and even with interactions with others is an important aspect of personal development. In the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (2004), Stephen Covey not only explains steps we can take to be a better person, but how we can use knowledge of who we are to live our lives and to demonstrate what we stand for.
