The 9/11 is a historically significant event because Canada enters the war, new laws were made and there were a lot of discrimination against Muslims. To begin with, 9/11 has a great impact on Canada entering the war. According to Dubreuil, by the time the Canada's elite Joint Task Force 2 operation ended, 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members had served in Afghanistan and 158 soldiers had lost their lives. (Dubreuil, 2015). Canada played an important role in conducting peacemaking operations of the removal of the Taliban regime. The operations included providing political and strategic advice to the civilians of Afghanistan, promoting human rights, reconstruction, health care systems and development missions with Afghan Government. Additionally,
9/11 changed the world’s view on terrorism. It was one of the deadliest terrorist attack on history. The attack on September 11, 2001 was on America but, it affected everyone around the globe. When talking about 9/11 one country that always gets left behind is Canada. Canada shares the longest border in the world with America. United States is also one of the biggest trade partner of Canada. The attack affected Canada just as much as it to America. Canadian foreign policy has changed a lot since the 9/11 attack. One of the main focus of Canadian foreign policy was Canada’s take on terrorism. Second policy Canada focused on public safety and immigration. The third policy Canada focused on working with the state of Israel.
9/11 plays a big role in American history. It commemorates a date for those affected by this traumatic event. Many can still remember the day, just as if it was yesterday – what they were doing and where they were. The vast majority of our sophomore class had not even been born, or old enough to recall this event. This date in American history unified us as a country.
On September 9, 2015, America looked back in time to September 9, 2001. 9-11 was the day that changed America forever. Two high jacked commercial airplanes crashed into the Twin TOWERS OF THE World Trade Center in New York City. Over 3,000 people were killed with many others injured and hundreds of first responders killed. Another airplane crashed into the Pentagon while in Pennsylvania a fourth airplane was brought down by brave passengers that refused to let the hijackers slam into Washington, D.C. The citizens of the United States were scared, confused, and angry all at the same time. This was the first attack by foreigners on American soil but not the first time that Americans were afraid of events that started in Europe and Eastern Europe but was brought to America, The American citizens did not take kindly to “foreigners” tell us what to do or how to live. They certainly did not want to change the American way of life.
One single person caused this entire tragedy. The approach he took to carry out the massacre has never been seen before; however, that does not mean it can not be seen again. This situation could have never been imagined, just as 16 years ago 9/11 could not have been imagined. While there are far less deaths than 9/11, this is still the largest mass shooting in U.S. history. The U.S. responded with change following 9/11. Should the nation respond with change now? Is there anymore action the government can
“We are not there to do traditional peacekeeping. We are there to combat terrorism and promote human rights.” The image of the twin towers coming down on September 11, 2001 shook the entire world. Since the Suez Crisis of 1956, Canadian soldiers had served as peacekeepers in Cyprus, Somalia, and many other war-torn countries. However, Canada's reputation changed when the Canadian Armed Forces joined the United States' war against Afghanistan. Although many argue that Canada entered the war to only fulfill NATO obligations, Canada's participation in Afghanistan was part of a larger mission; to combat global terrorism and save the oppressed citizens of Afghanistan. Canada's participation in the war in Afghanistan brought Canada world recognition for being more than
George W. Bush once said that “Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They see liberty and think they saw weakness.” 9/11 was a devastating day in American history. Men, from the terrorist group Al Quada, attacked America on their own soil for the first time since Japan attack us at Pearl Harbor. But there are some things we can isolate from it. The basic overview of it. What were the terrorists doing to get ready for the day, and what was their major purpose and intention.
On September 11’th 2001 on the morning hijacked by 19 Arab men 4 aircraft were all heading towards California, and used them as suicide missiles. They flew into the World Trade Center two twin towers, the Pentagon and after a long struggle with passengers crashed last down on a field. World Trade Center consisted of seven buildings, three of the buildings collapsed and the four others were damaged by the other collapsed. It is believed that the 19 Arab men, was led by the Egyptian Mohammed Atta (1968-2001) 5.
Suena was walking home and she felt like she was being followed, but she thought it was because of the horror movie she watched the night before. It was about a twenty minute walk for Surena to get home and she often enjoyed but that day she didn’t enjoy it. When she got home there was a note on her fridge from her mother saying she’ll be back in a couple of hours and that there was leftovers in the fridge. She still had that icky feeling that someone was watching her, she kept saying in her head that it was just the horror movie scaring her. Her dog Belle was eating the couch again, when her mom got home she’d be mad. Surena went up stairs to her bedroom and forgot to lock the door that day, when her mother warned her many times before to
What I think is the most significant historical event that has happened during my lifetime is 9/11. Even though I was two years old at the time, it still took a giant toll on America as a whole with its sense of security and the affect it had on the economy. 9/11 was a series of 4 adroit terrorist attacks by Al Qaeda, an Islamic terrorist group, on the United States on September 11, 2001. The attack targeted symbolic United States landmarks such as the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. In total, 2,996 people had died and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage. It was the most deadly incident for firefighters and law enforcers in the history of the United States. The U.S. was suspicious
Nothing I did worked. His skin, so close, so warm against my own, did it distract me? Was that it? I had done my best to free myself from the darkness he had encompassed around me, but my efforts did next to nothing in getting him away. He evaded it all. I was floundering amidst my own failure, but he was still there, still overshadowing me.
"This is 911, what is your emergency?" A desperate eleven year old girl tried to answer the operator's question, but all I could manage were sobs.
All I wanted was moments with my mom when I was nine; I did not get it. What about age ten, eleven, and twelve? My whole childhood was snatched out from under me, and I had to grow up way to fast. Don’t worry, I did not blame you. I blamed myself until I was fifteen. It was my fault my mother tried to drown my sisters and me. I saw signs and clues. I could tell she was not acting herself, but I said nothing. I didn’t go and ask another grownup for help. I put my sisters’ lives in danger, because I didn’t protect them.
History has always been a huge impact on the world. Mainly history is half good and half bad. History is based on perspective and informative decisions. Ones choices would be considered history in the near future because history involves events that happen in the past. More important forms of history include U.S. history or events that have changed the events of people and their lives.
September 11th, 2001, the day that the biggest terrorist attacks in history took place, the attack on the World Trade Centre in New York City. Even though this act of terrorism took place in the United States, it still had a major effect on Canada and changed a lot about the country and formatted what Canada is today. I will speak of four ways in which 9/11 affected Canada: The accusation that some of the hijackers entered the U.S. through Canada, how 9/11 affected immigration to Canada for Muslims, the way Muslims live in Canada today, and the story of Maher Arar and its relation 9/11.
September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
