An outcast is someone who is rejected by society or a social group, somebody who isn 't what most would call "normal." In the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, a few people considered outcasts were Huck, Pap, and Jim. Society did not agree with how these three characters acted and presented themselves, which was fine by them because they didn 't exactly agree with society anyways.

Also mid-way through the novel Jim and Huck finally find a raft that was floating down the stream so, they now have the freedom to leave the island and go where they need to go. Since they now have the raft they have the freedom to get food and supplies that may be in the water, that they could not get before. Twain constructed a beautiful narrative on how young Huck Finn, the protagonist in the story, learns about the world and from other adult characters, how he is shaped into his own person. At the time this book was made however, this novel provided serious social commentary on current events, such as slavery, and pointing out hypocrisies in how people are taught to see the world when in actuality it is wrong. However, none of his novels had as much popularity to the American society as the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In the novel, Twain was able to show many episodic plots that occurred while Huck and Jim were traveling through the Mississippi River. The episodic plots proved the novel to have elements of both the Bildungsroman tradition and the Picaresque tradition. The Bildungsroman tradition and the Picaresque tradition have two entirely different meanings and purposes, but Twain was able to merge these two elements into one novel.. By interweaving the traditions, Twain was able to show us, that the Mississippi River played a real role in the lives of Huck and Jim. The two were able to develop a strong friendship, but Huck was also able to mature as an individual and learned to accept people for who they are and not how society depicts them to be.

Many people believe that Twain was an abolitionist who utilized his public platform to address issues of slavery, racism, and freedom in his work The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; however, I believe that Twain was a racist who utilized this novel in particular to create a type of political satire about the expected changes in the south directly after the civil war.
