The Affordable Care Act, does it affect the average consumer financially? My paper is going to explain what the affordable care act is, why the law was passed and how the coverage works. I will explain why so many people do not like the new law. I will also tell you what will happen if you don’t get insurance as mandated by the government. It will also explain the metal tiers and how people chose the plans based on premiums and doctors. The article from Amy Anderson DNP, RN, CNE says how this new law has raised the number of uninsured, which is higher than it’s been in four decades. It will also tell you about people who the mandate has hurt financially. In my research I found four different families that the affordable care act as affected financially in some way. How affordable plans that many people were on were discontinued because they didn’t have the essential benefits that is required under this new law. I will also explain how the tax credits will affect people at tax time. In a narticle by Jeffrey Young The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates how many people will owe the government because of the tax credits and how much they will owe. My topic is; Is the Affordable Care Act as well as are tax credits actually affordable for the average consumer or is it causing further financial issues? First let me explain what the affordable care act is all about. In March 2010 President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law that applied
While researching the topic of the middle class and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) otherwise known as Obamacare, I found many articles about the impacts of the ACA on the middle class. The majority of these articles discussed how the ACA has negatively impacted the middle class and has made the middle class Americans have to pay higher taxes and premiums. These articles also show that for those who were previously uninsured, the cost of medical care has gone up. My goal in this paper is to show how the ACA has negatively impacted the lower middle class and how certain aspects of the ACA could be adjusted to have a more positive impact on lower middle class and upper lower class families.
This remedy began with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed by the U.S. senate on December 24, 2009 to then be passed in the U.S. house on March 21, 2010 to be signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010 which was upheld by the
The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is a healthcare program created by president Obama’s administration. The goal of the Affordable Care Act is to make sure every United States citizen has health insurance. The Affordable Care Act provides “affordable” health insurance plans to citizens that do not have any and make about $15,000 a year. While the idea of providing health insurance to the millions of American’s that cannot afford it is great, everything comes at a cost. According to Emily Miller, Obamacare is causing people’s health insurance premiums to rise by around 1 to 9 percent (Miller 15-15). Not only are insurance premiums rising, but ever since the Supreme Court declared the Affordable Care Act constitutional approximately 20 tax hikes have been approved (Battersby). All the aforementioned reasons are helping pay for Obamacare. Although providing health insurance for people that cannot afford it is important, the Affordable Care Act should be revoked because it will hurt the economy.
Large populations of Americans are uninsured mainly because of the high cost of insurance. Majority of the uninsured are the low-income working families’. The adults represent a higher percentage of the uninsured than children. Before the law, you could be denied coverage or treatment because you had been sick in the past, be dropped mid-treatment for making a simple mistake on your application, hence, the Affordable Care Act was implemented into law on March 23, 2010 by President Barrack Obama to make sure that every American irrespective of their status will be insured and have full access to proper health care benefits, rights and protection(1). To understand the
The goal of this paper is to explain the downfalls of Obamacare and share the stories of individuals affected negatively and directly by the approval of the policy. Although Obamacare set out with good intentions, many people are still left without health care coverage because of the constant revisions of the bill. There have been many taxes raised for the approval of this policy, and has caused problems for individuals who do not want coverage under Obamacare but would want coverage under a different company. Obamacare has helped some, but has caused other problems that would make it a bill that should be up for repeal.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is considered to be one of the most radical health care moves in legislation after Medicare. The reason being that it will provide universal health coverage to everyone regardless of circumstance. An evaluation of ACA’s influence on health care will be evaluated in this paper.
There are many factors in the affordable care act that have a significant effect on Americans, and are a major part of the affordable care act. In this essay i will discuss these factors of the Affordable care act and show the effects of them whether they have positive or negative effects.
President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law on March 23rd of 2010, with hopes of helping make sure every American have access to quality and affordable health care. Having health care coverage is really a big deal, whether you are a parent with private insurance, a senior with Medicare or a single woman with a pre-existing condition, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) can save you money and help you get better coverage.
The Affordable Care Act established by Barack Obama it is a revolutionary law that was passed to change the healthcare system in America. The affordable care act has many pro and cons. Is the Affordable care a good idea? The Affordable care act was put in place to help maintain healthcare spending cost, reduce the amount of people who are uninsured, create universal healthcare, expanding coverage for young adults and to make prescription drug coverage more affordable for seniors. In the year of 2010 and 2011 over 5.1 million seniors and people with disabilities on Medicare have saved over 3.1 billion on prescription drugs, however this includes a one-time rebate
The Affordable Care Act is President Obama’s new solution to provide healthcare coverage to uninsured Americans. The theory is that millions of uninsured Americans will get access to affordable health insurance through the government. The Affordable Care Act reforms Medicare. You cannot be dropped from coverage when you get sick. You cannot be denied coverage or treatment for being sick. You also cannot be charged more for being sick. Although these are all mostly the positive sides to the Affordable Care Act there are many negative. Since you cannot be dropped for being sick, it will make the prices for everyone’s insurance go up. Also, since so few young and healthy Americans have signed up, the math used to create the program is not adding up. Because there is so much confusion surrounding the specifics of the ACA, the Affordable Care Act keeps getting delayed. The Obama administration announced another delay on
The Affordable Care Act is supposed to be designed to make insurance costs affordable for Americans, rather than what the law offer for Americans to pay. The law states that everyone must have health insurance, or they will be subject to penalty. Sireesha Manne, a staff attorney at the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty stated “For those with very low wages trying to raise kids after paying for housing, electricity, food, and transportation, and child care, asking people to pay another $50 to $100 a month that’s just out of reach.” A concern regarding the Affordable Care Act, is that even with the federal financial assistance available under the law, health insurance will remain unaffordable for a significant number of low-income families. Although the Affordable Care Act is to be cost effective, the prices and premiums are still exceedingly high for Americans with low and moderate income.
A family of four, making nearly $24,000 a year, is situated just above the national poverty line. Even though the family doesn't have health insurance, they are maintaining their current lifestyle. Now, this struggling family will have to come up with an extra 7,000 dollars annually to cover the health insurance being forced upon them by the government. The Affordable Care Act is punishing American citizens and it will not fulfill its purpose to lower the cost of health care for our country. Its poorly constructed plan is only a band-aid that is patching up a problem that will lead to more problems in the future.
The affordable health care act has received its fair share of criticism as well. Opponents of the bill fell that the cost of this bill will be higher that before. People we be seen for more care and more sick people will be diagnosed with illnesses and they will be a constant visitor in medical facilities looking for care. Others argue the level of service provided. The main thing these critiques seem to point to is the cost and how effective is the bill finically. These things wont be determined or seen until this bill is riding in full effect in the years to come.
“ObamaCare contains many benefits, especially for low and middle income families and business” (“ObamaCare: Pros and Cons”). Many people have been having concerns on the cost of the insurance because it has raised in cost. There is a new law out there that President Barack Obama passed called ObamaCare. ObamaCare is also known to be The Affordable Care Act (ACA). The goal of this act was to make sure every American had health insurance by January 2014. ObamaCare went from being something good, to a controversial issue towards Americans. This topic is very debatable in positive and negative ways, it just all depends on how it effects someone. One of ObamaCare’s requirements were to have companies provide health insurance to people
The Affordable Care Act has caused some controversy throughout the US population. Individuals have different opinions about its benefits. Some argue it will not be successful, while others believe it is one of the best things to have happened. I do believe the Affordable Care Act will help us improve our health care.
