1. The place is at City of Whittier, the location is 13230 Penn Street Whittier, CA 90602, and the date I went to go visit was Thursday August 6. It was my first time attending a local governmental meeting. The meeting that was held was titled as The Parking and Transportation Commission. I was glad the topic was on this because I felt keeping our society safe is the most important. So the City Council would do its best to make sure that there would not be hassle while driving on the road way. They try their best to prevent traffic and parking problems. Obviously there is still going to be traffic on the freeways, but they try their best to cause fewer problems for people in the society. The members that were in the meeting would give suggestions or feedback, and recommendations to other board members. Everyone had their own point of view about the Parking and Transportation issue. The Directive was taking a look at the transportation ecological impact reports, future transportation expansion strategies, and school crossing guard sites. I feel like their thoughts were all good, however in my opinion it is not a good idea to use all those recommendations regarding about the issue. The reason for this is because then it would be too costly. I feel that it would be best to just take the best recommendation and then use that as a strategy for traffic flow. In addition, I like the idea of how they need of school crossing guard places is important, because sometimes children do
The town of Halton Hill’s population includes the areas of Georgetown and Acton and other communities such as Erin, Oakville, Burlington and Milton regions. This is what is considered to be my community because these are the many places that I am visiting most often and they are always referred to together as “Halton Hills Region” (p.5, 2011). With the substantial increase in population in the Halton Hills region, more specifically Georgetown, there should be a strong demand for a public transit system to counteract all of the environmental disturbances that are being caused due to this increase. One of the things that is happening is that there are so many trees they are cutting down in order to expand and grow the population with houses being built. Statistics are showing that the population of Halton Hill’s region will expand by 54% over the next 20 years (p.5, 2011). By the year 2031, employment rates will increase by 75%, leaving Halton with 42,100 jobs being offered (p.5, 2011). With this rapid influx of citizens, this will only increase the demands of travel to get to these work places as well as other destinations (p.5, 2011). Over the past couple of year’s the traffic congestion on the major roads in Halton Hills such as Trafalgar Road and Regional Road 25 with individuals trying to get to and from work. There used to be very little traffic in these areas, however since Halton Hill’s has continued to expand, the utilization of automobiles has significantly increased due to the fact there is no public transit system. The Transportation Demand Management in Halton Hill’s is noticing the increase in automobiles stating that there needs to be a major shift in more efficient ways of transportation, yet there still has been nothing improvised (p.7, 2011). The Transportation Demand
One thing of significance that I learned about at the city council meeting was meeting procedure. When I first arrived a pre-meeting workshop about annexation was occurring. After the regular meeting began we started with the Pledge of Allegiance. Next roll call of the council members was taken. Dallas Center has five council members: Mike Kidd, David Bagby, Kurt Pion,. Following roll call was an action to approve the agenda, which was approved. Next up was public communications and concerns. I was surprised that each person only has two minutes to talk about all the issues they
The City of Los Angeles is notorious for its space congestion: in most neighborhoods, simply finding an open parking spot is considered a luxury. To make matters worse, California vehicle code section 22500 (f) exacerbates Los Angeles congestion as it precludes vehicles from extending over any portion of a sidewalk or onto a street. This paper will draw attention to the fact that 22500 requires amendment, doing so would both reduce space congestion and ease vehicle accessibility.
For city services we plan on focusing highly on education and police force. Our biggest concerns are traffic, health, police. education, and fire solutions. Traffic is our biggest problem because if
Of course, during meetings, many questions are sure to arise about the same factors. Most people want know what will be done on roadway conditions, what will be done about the cleaning of the parks, etc. One of the biggest, and very surprising, issues brought up recently by the Common Council is a chicken ordinance for Warsaw. In a unanimous vote, the Warsaw Planning Commission has given their approval to allow chickens within the city limits. However, the Council voted “no” on the ordinance that, if passed, would have allowed a select number of residents to raise and maintain chickens on their property inside the city
The ideas they are looking for need to focus around housing programs such as a first time home owner program. also Humboldt County Association of Governments (HCAOG) wants to poll people on a proposed humboldt county transportation sales tax measure. HCAOG want to add a tax for people to vote on but doesn't want to do it if it isn't wanted. the organization wants to do a poll to see if the tax is wanted. HCAOG wanted to get Eureka city council go ahead. There was a lot of discussion around this. The last topic I found interesting because of the subject also the action taken before the meeting. The chief of police pulled a proposed ordinance that would require that firearms be locked up when not around. This would apply in a residential setting and also the a business setting. It wasn't said why it was pulled but the chief did talk about how he might bring it back at a later date. The Chief will try an educational approach first and also provide locks to make locking firearms up easier. The chief gave examples about how stores were broken into with firearms stolen and later recovered in the hands of people committing
These issues and many others will be fleshed out as part of a $175,000 Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning grant we’ve secured to come up with a comprehensive Rail Corridor Plan. With information presented comprehensively at community meetings, the Council and the public will be able to discuss the possibilities for long-term solutions such as trenching (as in Solana Beach), more under-crossings like the Swami’s pedestrian underpass at Santa Fe Drive, and all other options. Over the past 30 years, the city has seen multiple studies, and those results will be compiled and presented as part of the Rail Corridor
The members on the board of supervisors and planning commission, all seemed to be in agreement with each other on most matters. On the other hand, I noticed great deal of discord amongst the Gulfport City Council members, particularly between Councilwoman Ella Holmes-Hines and Councilman F.B. ‘Rusty’ Walker, IV. They both voiced disparities regarding the pay rate amongst police officers and firefighters. Although they did disagree, at the end of the meeting, Councilman F.B. ‘Rusty’ Walker, IV, did clarify that even though they disagree, they collectively think of themselves as a team; this showed great strength and maturity to
Comparing the financial cost of the interstate with the cost of having to reallocate funding or stopping programs in an effort to decrease traffic congestion will create a greater economic downturn if not done in moderation as well as a decrease in confidence in lawmakers. The lawmakers will feel the decrease in confidence by citizens during elections. Unless the local government can generate and use other sources of revenue to continue highway improvement, the decision to remove the city’s funding is not practical.
The next concern was met with an abundance of conversation. One of the city council members pointed out that in the project layout during the presentation, there was a lack of sidewalks. This was an important issue in order for people to walk on the sidewalk instead of in the grass. Another city council member noted that would be another fundraising project due to the high expense of adding a sidewalk next to the street as well as addition off-street parking (Bellevue City Council Meeting, October 23, 2017). This city council member also stated that they would need to be cautious when asking the public sector to come up with the funds (Bellevue City Council Meeting, October 23, 2017). However, it was agreed upon that the city had enough staff and money to pay for the sidewalks next to the
The meeting continued with the Joint Consent Calendar, the consent calendar is a grouping of routine matters to be acted on in one motion. There were six items considered and recommended actions taken anywhere from issues related to utilities to professional services. At the end of this presentation it was open to public hearing providing any concerned resident an opportunity to speak. This was followed by consent ordinances which city staff members began to speak about Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and its draft citizen participation plan for years 2015-2019. This was followed by an ordinance for the Civic Plaza which would limit the use of skateboards, bicycles, and leashed animals during special events held at this location. Following these issues the council would make a decision which would be placed on record for public view. New business was proposed where an approval of long ranged property management was projected, but they motioned to push this event forward to the next meeting due to the absence of a council member who was more familiar with the issue.
In our urban and planning class, we discuss about the land use of specific areas and look over the official plan and the zoning-by-law. We select four bus stop where along the Gordon street and analysis each area behind the bus stops base on the city of Guelph documents. Gordon street is the busiest and main street in the Guelph city, and many bus lines should pass the Gordon street to the other places. The first bus stop we choose is Guelph Central Station which is the main transit station in the city, the second is Royal city park stop which represents entertainment and green space in downtown Guelph, the third stop closes to Campus Estates Plaza where is one of busy commercial land and the last one we choose is Solstice 1 Student
I chose to attend a city council meeting for this assignment and was very surprised at what I witnessed. The city council served an important purpose and the meeting actually accomplished many important goals. Among the interesting things that I saw at the council meeting were the people who attended, the people who presented, the people who sat on the council, and the subjects that were being voted upon in the meeting.
A number of "traffic calming" measures were introduced, but this did not solve the problem. In fact those changes created numerous disruptions, increased traffic congestion, and provoked a large number of complaints from road users. The CCT has started to attract significant political attention, negative media and a strong resistance by the community. So what went wrong? It is evident that CKI and its partners need to act quickly and implement a plan that could allow them to get this project back on track and achieve the project goals.
I request that you accept my topic for the Writing 465 final project. Hopefully, I will be able to use this project to help alleviate the current parking problem at Winthrop University. Jack Allen, from Campus Police, and Walter Hardin, Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, have shown interest in my project.
