The American Dream that labor will lead one from poor to an everlasting supply of money has been the center of attention for the almost unrealistic American dream since its beginning. People from other places came west to America even all the way from Europe only looking for what I predict as wealth and freedom. However the pioneers wanted to head west for the same if not identical reasons. The great Gatsby shows us that “the tide turning east” as some would say, as people run to where dreams come true the city of New York looking for stuff they could sell like stocks etc. for fortunes. We focus on Gatsby’s goal in Chapter four: to win daisy his lover back. Despite everything he owns, as well as an impressive amounts of cash and an even more impressive mansion, for Gatsby, daisy is the final piece missing from his perfect picture. Therefore in Chapter five, once daisy And Gatsby happily reunite and start an affair, it appears like Gatsby might of course “deliver the goods” as some would say finally achieving his goal. In Chapter six, we take a look at Gatsby’s not so wealthy past that makes him seem like the star of a rags-to-riches stories that everyone loves to tell, it makes Gatsby himself look like somebody in pursuit of the dream defying American dream, and for him the personification of that dream is daisy even if he has almost everything to achieve this dream he still needs daisy to complete it. However, in Chapters seven and eight, everything comes crumbling down as daisy refuses to finally stop cheating on Tom and just leave him for Gatsby. Daisy and Tom's relationship is additional proof of the collapse of this so called American dream. Though they belong to the West Egg group aka social group and have all the money they could ask for, they both are still sad and not content with the life they have no matter
