Whenever someone asks a child what they want for a present, a puppy is usually included in that list. We consider dogs to be our constant companions and one of the only animals that is our equal. Dogs provide happiness and friendship. However, they do so much more. Canines caused the human race to survive and thrive. Without dogs, the world would be more difficult for people. Humans may owe our existence to dogs. In ancient times, Homo sapiens started to notice that feral dogs surrounded their homes. These primitive people did not get rid of the wolves because of the benefits that they offered. Wolves would eat the leftover scraps that the Homo sapiens set aside, therefore reducing the trash and stench (Coren 5). Wolves would …show more content…
These canines’ find bodies out at sea by the skin particles and gases that rise to the surface of the water (Layton). It is difficult for these dogs to pinpoint exactly where the person is because most bodies of water have a current, therefore the dogs often have to work in groups and average where they alert the body is to find the real location (Layton). The opposite of water dogs are avalanche dogs that search for people trapped under up to fifteen feet of snow (Layton). One of the most common types of air-scent dogs are urban disaster dogs. After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers, three hundred canines were brought in to determine if anyone was trapped in the rubble of the collapsed buildings (Ascher-Walsh 105). Wilderness dogs can find people who have gotten lost in the wilds. Lastly are mutts that look for items that have human scent on them. Canines that do this are evidence or article dogs. Search and rescue dogs do an amazing job of finding people. According to the How Stuff Works website, “a single SAR dog can accomplish the work of 20 to 30 human searchers” (Layton). Since pups are faster at finding people than humans, they are often used considering that time is crucial in these positions; “In an avalanche situation, for instance, approximately 90 percent of victims are alive 15 minutes after burial; 35 minutes after burial, only 30 percent of victims are alive” (Layton). It is important to use the fastest, most accurate technology
This has led to the belief that dogs can provide company, affection and support to people who are going through a difficult time or who feel lonely. Dogs have aided humans in tasks such as hunting, livestock herding, and guarding. However, as society moved from small rural communities to increasingly large metropolitan areas, the dog’s role changed. Throughout the years a more specific type of
Imagine walking in the door after a long day; your furry loving puppy is sprinting towards you so excited to see you after missing you all day. Your puppy is ready to grab your attention and distract you from the terrible day you’ve had, comforting you in the process. Dogs are great pets because of their comforting nature, playfulness and protective tendencies.
Dogs are the closest creature to man. Sure they are considered as best friend by some. Compared to others, they show an attitude of a friend. They stay beside you no matter what. They also have this sacrificial attitude for their owners. Their being playful and sweet is also remarkable, to the extent that you find yourself longing for them.
Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years that dogs have been trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very specific jobs. For example, the article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, “Service animals are defined as dogs that are
The domestic dog has to be one of the most unique animals that the human had ever bred. All dogs were formed differently and for separate reasons; whether it be for their looks or for their personal attributes, the dog has been evolved around humans and yet many breeds were created by humans themselves. I also believe that having a dog is a necessity to having a balanced life, just how Cesar Millan was quoted on the Brainy Quote web page “The dog can only become what's in your bubble. The dog is imitating the energy that is in your bubble. You are the source, the feast of energy. If you feel anxious, the dog becomes anxious with you. If you become nervous, the dog wakes up nervous with you”. Your dog runs off of your actions and emotions
I do believe that the wolves in Minnesota should be placed on the endangered species list. Their population has declined for about over the past decade, but fortunately seems to be back on the rise again due to strict laws and regulations. The Endangered Species Act has been a great help to the replenishment of wolves and has kept them safe over the last year and previous years before as well. I believe if we stick to these laws and regulations the wolf population will begin to replenish.
In May, 2016, 20 calves were killed and not eaten in four days in the area of the Absaroka Mountains, outside of Pinedale Wyoming. (Urbigkit ,2016) However, it doesn’t stop there, every day livestock and wildlife are killed and rarely eaten by wolves in almost every western state. This is a problem that needs to be addressed before ranchers lose their herds, and before the wild herds are depleted beyond restoration. If the wolf situation was bad a couple years ago, well now it’s worse, even some of the “protectors of wildlife” are starting to come to their senses.
In this essay I will be informing readers about the history of the wolf in the western part of the United States, the wolf’s status as an endangered species, and its effect on the ecosystem and what we as humans can do to manage it.
1. The wolf is a pack animal. What does it mean to be a pack animal?
Whenever it’s nice outside my dog and I go for a walk on our rode it’s relaxing and not stressful. Sometime when i’m working on the farm i’ll take a break and play with them. When i’m down or feeling sick my dogs always cheer me up by getting me all hyped up and going for a walk and playing some ball. The last thing is they are good guard dogs, my puppy which is only four years old is very protective of my family, he’s always on guard, he lets my little sister climb all over him and stuff. Whenever my mom isn't home I let him roam the house and he jumps in bed with me or my little brother, Dustin. That's why my dogs are interesting to
In the passage Dogs make us Human it said that, “Now dogs still need people, but people have forgotten how much they need dogs for any besides love and companionship (Grandin, Pg 153 - 154, pp 3)” This quote explains that both dogs or pets and human need each other even when it doesn't include love or companionships, they still need each other. Dogs can be a perfect companion for human, which is why they are stated as a “Human’s best friend” Dogs are not just a pet or just a simple friend, they could show you love and friendship upon
Puppies, they’re cute, cuddly, and a staple in most american homes. However, given the proper training they can be used for more pressing matters. When these puppies grow up, they can make significant impacts in their communities. Dogs can be used as service animals, therapy animals.
For thousands of years wolves have roamed the lands all around the world. From rich mythology and forgotten lessons, scientists have found evidence of wolves in almost every culture. Driven and hunted to near extinction conservation efforts have uncovered these long-forgotten teachings once again. Researchers are reminded of important family dynamics and the many parallels found in humans. Wolves were on the endangered list because they were hunted until almost extinction. Settlers farming of the land and the value of furs drove the hunt to eradicate one of nature’s top-level predators. Over the last few centuries biologists, ecologists, and scientists have been studying the effect this eradication has had on natures ecology. By observing the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone National Park scientists are uncovering new information on the real impact of top predators like the wolves. While the fight for survival of their species continues conservationists are fighting to find common ground to live and coexist with these formidable predators. Despite the legalization of massive slaughter of thousands of these majestic animals for sport, children of the next generation are already educating themselves and advocating for conservation. The hope is that these education and conservation efforts will allow humans and wolves to co-exist.
