Human beings have always fought for the right to control their bodies and engage in practices that please themselves and their bodies. Similarly, the society, in general, has tried to regulate the control of human bodies and set rules that do not favor everyone's opinion. The most common forms of body control that have been fought over for a long time include freedom of sexuality and freedom of abortions. In the case of sexuality, the society, mostly backed by religious institutions has tried to eliminate homosexuality despite the fact that many members of the society are naturally born gay or homosexual. To contravene God and the bible must be the incipient trend since homosexuals celebrate it and feel that is it ok to get espoused under God. Marriage is a sacred commitment between man and woman and the legalization of gay espousement threatens the Americans religious rights. This topic matters because Christians feel as if getting married under God is an act of dishonor and that it is irrelevant. Marriage should stay between a man and woman because that is verbalized in the bible, children are more likely to live a normal life, and religious beliefs are not being ignored.

The controversy of gay marriages increases in debate within the United States and continues to be a debate even in the political scene. Whether we approve or disapprove of gay marriages the United States courts may force many to follow the law even despite the fact it may jeopardize their religious beliefs.

America was founded on the ideals of freedom. Written into the first amendment of the constitution is the basic right to freedom of speech, press, protest, and religion. However, where does one draw the line to how far these freedoms can go? Are they limitless, or should they be regulated? In reality, the regulation of these freedoms is necessary, otherwise they could be interpreted and used in many different ways that are potentially detrimental. The main complication is how far to let these rights stretch, and when they must be cut off.

Although many conservatives were and are still opposed to same-sex marriages, the struggle for marriage equality in America focuses on the right to marry. The United States Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges (2015) ruled that same-sex couples are guaranteed the fundamental right to marry by the Equal Protection Clause and the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution. Therefore, legalizing same-sex marriages would be good for America as it would spur equality, promote family stability and validate LGBT family units as well as increase the number of children successfully adopted.

Many current issues in America wouldn’t even be a concern if religion didn’t play a part in the decision making. Gay marriage is, for the most part, illegal in the United States, with the exception of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Vermont. Only five states in our entire country. That means that in the other 45 states, gay marriage is just as illegal as murder or armed robbery. Religion plays a huge part in the legality of gay marriage. Many religions say that homosexuality is “wrong” because it involves sex that doesn’t create life. But if non-procreative sex is the issue, than shouldn’t the production of birth control be illegal, too? The production of condoms should be put to an end immediately and all subscriptions for “the pill” should be ended right away. That is, if we’re basing our laws off the same reasons why religions like Catholicism are against gay marriage. But we all know that’d do more harm than good. Sure we’d have more babies walking around, which is exactly what we wanted, sex that creates babies to carry on the human kind. But we’d also have a significantly higher amount of people with STDs, such as diseases as life threatening as AIDS. Its rise in popularity soared within the United States in 2000, when Vermont became the first state in the country to recognize these types of unions between same-sex couples. The United States is currently embroiled in a battle over issues regarding civil rights of its citizens and what rights are constituted by that term. In the past, civil rights issues have been fought over women's rights and those of African Americans among others all in the name of seeking equality. There are many controversies surrounding today's world, such as abortion, animal testing, and social reform issues. It seems that no one can come to a common agreement on the legitimacy of these topics. Personal characteristics, such as upbringing, culture, religion and ethnicity, all play a role in determining one's feelings on a given controversial issue. However, one of the most protested and discussed issues in current political debate is same-sex marriage. There is no right or wrong answer to this question, only hard pressed arguments expressing speculation regarding supposed outcomes, benefits and possible tribulations that would come along with the endorsement of gay marriage. Opposing same sex marriage and my solution of reinforcing the same sex marriage law would be people who have homophobia and some religions or religious people. Although people who have homophobia and some religious people are against gay marriage with the idea of out ruling gay marriage,my solution of reinforcing the same sex marriage law is superior to all other solutions out there.

Sam Schulman’s “The Worst Thing About Gay Marriage” presents an interesting argument against gay marriage that hinges upon maintaining a traditional form of marriage. People are born homosexual. If you are homosexual you cannot get married. That idea is ridiculous. On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry. Marriage is defined as a sacred bond of love between two people. Gay people also feel love therefore, they should be allowed the same rights as everyone else in this country. Homosexuality is an accepted lifestyle nowadays with a proven biological causation. The only thing that should matter in marriage is love and denying them this is a violation of religious freedom.
