The Articles of Confederation

The Articles of Confederation was the first system of government that the united states ever put into force, and is the only one they ever wrote besides the constitution. The articles was created due to a need for the United States to unite during the american revolution, and was basically a loosely bound union of states, so it was obvious that this was essentially just to semi-unite the states in order to fight the british, and they would form a more stable form of government after the fact, which they did when they wrote the constitution. I will now list the provisions of the Articles of Confederation.

Levying Taxes: Congress may request money from the states
Federal Court:No system of federal courts
Regulation of trade:No regulation of trade
Executive:No power for the president, they merely preside over congress
Amending The Articles:Needs a unanimous vote to amend the articles
Representation:All states get one vote, regardless of size
Military:Congress could not draft troops, depended on the states for troops
Internal Trade:No regulation of trade
Disputes Between States:Complicated system of arbitration
Sovereignty:Sovereignty resides with the states
Passing Laws:9/13 required to pass law
