In this paper, I will compare two of my favorite stories from Trickster: Waynaboozhoo and the Geese and How Alligator Got His Brown, Scaly Skin. These two stood out from the others as strong tales with clear and powerful messages. After I compare the two plots, I will discuss the relevant parts of the respective cultures from which these stories originated.
Saroo Brierley went through, a traumatic experience when he was only 5 years old. He was completely lost, miles and miles away from home. No one knew his language, or knew where he was from. Lion is an autobiography about part of Saroo’s life. He wrote about his traumatic experience and how it affected his entire life. After he wrote his book, it was turned into a wonderful major motion picture. The book and movie have multiple similarities and differences.
A revolution is spreading through the world of work because of changes in information, technology and communication. Information and technology has lessened the gaps between individuals and it is no longer necessary for people to be in close geographic location to enhance working capabilities. Telework means working at a distance and technology makes this possible. Teleworkers are defined as employees or contractors who work at least one day per month; they are also referred to as telecommuters. Research shows that teleworkers work nine days per month at home with three hours per week during normal business hours. Teleworkers seek to blend work responsibilities and personal benefits to enable them handle their work better and life responsibilities.
In this paragraph, I will talk about the story, “The Tell Tale Heart”. In the beginning of the story, the narrator wants to kill an old man, who lives with him, because of his vulture eye. He decides that he will watch the old man at night and shine a light on his vulture eye. If he sees the eye he will kill the old man. In the first seven days, he does not see the vulture eye. But on the 8th night he makes a slight noise and wakes the old man up. After a little while he charges into the room, which then the old man screams, and the narrator kills the old man by
The killing of animals has been ubiquitous almost since the creation of the world. Some animals are killed as a sacrifice to a “greater being”. Other animals are killed for food. Finally, some animals are killed for sport, that is, human leisure.
“Live with your head in the lion’s mouth” is a phrase his dying grandfather told him on his death bed. The lion represents white males on how dangerous they are. The lion also represents the world and how African Americans haven’t been accepted as humans yet. The mouth represents the terror and events that take place. As a lion is a predator and goes after what he wants. The lion is also a representation of white male society on the supremacy because they are the kind of the jungle. The head represents the physiological standpoint of an educated African-American male. His thoughts on what white
In In the Skin of a Lion, Alice is accidently killed in a labor demonstration. In a perverse sense of justice, Patrick attempts to explode a hotel as a statement to the industrial exploitation of the working class. In terms of Patrick’s crime of attempted mass murder and terrorism, it is problematic to align oneself as either absolutely for or against his actions. On one hand, Patrick loses the love of his life, the mother of his daughter, and the woman who made him feel that “you can do anything to me, take everything way, put me in prison, but I will know Alice Gull when we are old” (Odaantje 164). Losing the one joy in his life, besides her daughter Hana, takes a mental toll on him. Patrick has been pushed over the edge by grief and the oppressiveness of society for the working class. Readers feel sympathetic to his heartache and anguish, arguing Patrick was not in a stable state of mind, and that rapid change can only come out of tragedy when the upper class is forced to listen to the pleads of its workers. Much like Patrick, Davy too lies in the grayscale of moral quandary. Davy without doubt fired the shots that killed two young men, leaving parents bereaved at the loss of their children, struck down with their whole lives ahead of them. It is necessary to consider, at the same time, that these two young men attempted to assault Davy’s girlfriend and break into his house with the intent to harm his family (Enger 11). Davy acts out of self defense, for both himself and his younger siblings. Most readers are incapable of seeing Davy as only a vile murderer because many feel if put in a similar situation, they would be compelled to act the same as he did. Davy is not a hateful and villainous person; to call him such would imply one is no better than he. Patrick and Davy are driven over the edge, allowing their emotions to influence their decisions,
One of Melinda’s main problems is that she, like many youths entering high school, has a stereotypical vision of what her experience should be like. In her mind at least, high school is a time for dating, alcohol, and parties. Because of this, she thinks that she needs to act and dress a certain way to get people to like her; she is deeply afraid of rejection and is insecure. Her immersion into high school culture went smoothly at first, but ultimately her naivety will make her an outcast, forced to watch her peers from the sidelines.
Paige, here are a few of the options I found. Going through your Pinterest, I see that your style is girly with a slight edge.

Have you ever wanted to walk in someone else’s shoes for a day and see what life is like for people on the other side of the planet? Would you be more thankful for the life you have and the skin you live in? The environment, food, and habits are different for everyone depending on where they live in the world. Americans have the ability to see the flexibility in these components, but other countries can not afford to change these factors to benefit their skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body, the Sudanese and American families must be able to promote a healthy lifestyle to maintain and enhance their skin.

In the beginning of the short story, the narrator’s grandfather on his death bed says, " Live with your head in the lion's mouth. I want you to overcome 'em with yeses, undermine 'em with grins, agree 'em to death and destruction, let 'em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open” Ellison 1). The narrator’s grandfather tries to tell him to conform and live a life subservient to whites. He wants him to agree with them and try to be like them to win them over. The narrator calls the words his grandfather shared with him on his death bed his, “grandfather's curse” (Ellison 2). His grandfather’s words acted as blindfold to keep him from seeing the injustice in the way he is treated because his focus becomes doing and saying whatever pleases the whites making him a “traitor” as his grandfather calls it (Ellison
Than those accounts by Theocritus that had people witnessing Heracles, and how Heracles lifted the lion over his back instead of choking him on the ground. To where and who was involved with the lion like Diodorus Siculus states. Then in Greek/Roman times when the Pseudo Apollodorus writes about the same myth poking fun at the Mycenaeans and king Eurystheus. By this time though, the story seems to take hold into what it becomes today with the numerous productions of movies, books, and stories of
In the short story of Tell-Tale Heart, the narrator talks about an insane mad man who speaks to himself.
