The article I read is called The Aztecs: Blood and Glory: are about the Mesoamerica ancient advanced civilization of the Aztecs used to be settled off the central highland now a modern central Mexico. The ancient civilization lasted from 1428-1521. The Aztec become one of the most powerful civilization from Mexico of that specific time period. Tenochtitlan is the capital of the Aztecs and becomes the most important establishment in Middle America history. The Aztec empire is completely ruled under one supreme ruler called a buey tlatoani. The people believed their ruler is half-god and half-human. Interesting fact, which the ruler does not pass down the throne to the net heir, but have to be selected from their military council that rules the royal houses.
My reactions from this article are how the ancient city of Tenochtitlan located on the island called Lake Tetzcoco with marshes has numerous of a

The way of life of the Aztecs within the city Tenochtitlan is very complex civilization. The Aztecs people are very advanced in astronomy and created the most advanced calendars from that time period. The law system is very complex and advance within the time period. The Aztecs law system was really something, its empire structure has to be based heavily on rigorously of the behavior of the citizens to keep the balance in check within society. The way of life of the Aztecs seem fair because if the people can’t pay their debt they can pay if off of being the main laborer. The Aztecs are very artistic with
The Aztecs were a remarkable civilization. Th is civilization were distrusted and disliked because they tended to push others out of their way. They ruled an empire in Tenochtitlan in the time of 1350 to 1519. They also were known for their agriculture and human sacrifices. Agriculture was a very important part of their h istory because without their farming method the Aztec couldn't have created such great civilization. According to Document A of the Aztec DBQ, states that the Aztec empire grew more than 200 miles west to east, and north to south. Th is means that with the growth of the empire the population also grew and more effective agriculture techniques were needed to feed the people. They created the method of ch inampas because they
The reading “An Aztec account of the Spanish Conquest” is mainly about a story when Hernan Cortes came for the first time at Tenochtitlan (nowadays Mexico City). The Aztecs believes that when Hernan Cortes arrive they believe the he was Quetzalcoatl, the main god in the Aztec culture. Cortes were friendly invite to the Aztec city as the most important guest, the Aztec people made a big party to celebrate the return of their god, but the Aztec people did not know Cortes intentions of conquer the empire. Later the Aztecs were betrayed by Hernan Cortes. Cortes’s army began to attack the city and at the end they take over the city.
While most of what has happened historically is clouded by speculation and wonder, some events have been well-documented. The Conquest of the Americas by the Spanish was an event in which many aspects were recorded, which has helped historians tremendously. The Broken Spears is a historical outlook on the Spanish Conquest of the Americas that includes several different texts written by many different indigenous people. Numerous texts are written in such a way that show the fear that the people experienced while having their towns overtaken, while other texts simply explain what was happening at the time. In Traditions and Encounters, a more factual approach is
The ancient Aztec civilization is usually thought of as a barbaric, unintelligent people throughout modern society. This could be an ideal carried down from the Spaniards that concord the native lands or even something as simple as today’s society creating overblown stereotypes because of conjoined lack of understanding and overall knowledge. But, because of the extensive research and studies done by Miguel León-Portilla we are able to discover the true nature of the Aztec peoples way of life. Within the book “Aztec Thought and Culture” the author explains the develop of the Aztec civilization through education and philosophy as well as describing the Aztec people as an advanced society rather than the popular belief of a savage people and culture.
In the book Daily Life of The Aztecs On the Eve of the Spanish Conquest by Jacques Soustelle you are walked through what life was like for the Aztecs. You are in 16th Century Mexico, or to them Mexico-Tenochtilan. Soustelle does an excellent job immediately putting you in character with the introduction of the book. The book is broken down into seven different main chapters detailing major aspects of the Aztecs lives in the late 1500’s. You learn about where they lived, to the wars they fought, and what life was like for them from birth to death. In this paper I will further discuss four topics that were very crucial in the daily lives of the Aztecs. I will help you find a better understanding in their daily life as well as the many changes they migrated through over time. The four topics I will be discussing are: 1. Culture and Customs of the Aztecs 2. Civilization vs Barbarism 3. Art and Architecture 4. Education and Home Life.
The Aztec Empire was very successful during their time in power. Before settling Lake Texcoco, they were believed to be nomads. According to legend, Huitzilopochtli (god of sun and war) told them to go where they was an eagle sitting on a cactus with a snake in it’s mouth. Although, historians believe that other more powerful tribes had settled around Lake Texcoco. The Aztecs had no choice but to settle where they did. Overall the Aztec Empire was very powerful, and successful. Mainly they should be known for their innovations. Politically, through lightning quick attacks, chinampas, and emperors being chosen on merit. Economically, innovations such as chinampas, causeways/raised roads, and canals. Lastly, innovations were used socially through calpullis, aqueducts, and Calmecacs.
Aztec is civilization created by the ancient Indian, which was mainly distributed in central and southern Mexico. Aztecs were a tribe with a lower level of development at first, but they absorb and fuse with other outstanding cultural traditions of Indian in the region that they rose rapidly. Aztec had developed agriculture and the main crops were corn, beans, squash, potatoes. Religion played an important role in the life of the Aztecs. The inhabitants believed in the immortality of the soul and Supreme domination. They adored the natural god that one of the peculiar was to use the living person for sacrifice.
Pre-Columbian Aztec Tribe was a very complex and hierarchical society that settled among the Aztecs of central Mexico in the times prior to the Spanish seize of Mexico. It was erected on the cultural bases of the bigger area of Mesoamerica. The culture was structured into self-governing city-states, called altepetls, which had smaller divisions. These city-states were further composed of one or more large kinship cluster (History.com). Nobles and commoners were the most fundamental social division in the Aztec empire. Noblemen were given more privileges that were not shared by the commoners most significantly the right to get protection from commoners on their land. The common individuals were exempted to own and cultivate land and to handle their possessions, while yet accomplishing the requirements of the lords and their calpulli, such as protection payment and military help. Nevertheless, at the same time were given some privileges equal to those of the lesser nobleness. During the rise of an Aztec empire, there were so many problems that the community experienced to conquer other lands and survive. This article illustrates some of the main problems that the Aztec tribe experienced. Among them are diseases, feeding a large population, ritual sacrifices, political problems through rivalry and prejudice and technological problems.
The Aztec empire has been said to be the “greatest engineers in the Americas” and rival the Roman Empire in technology. The Aztec Empire had luxurious pyramids, temples and a gleaming capital city called Tenochtitlan, that in its golden years, was said to house over 200,000-250,000 Aztecs. Tenochtitlan was larger than Rome, London and Madrid put together. On top of it’s large population, the people and streets were very pristine. The Tenochtitlan citizens took daily baths to ensure they were fully clean. Infact, Tenochtitlan had public baths and lavatories for the citizens.
The Aztecs society was structured in a hierarchy with nobles at the top. Social status was determined primarily at birth. All members of the nobility could trace their lineage to the first Aztecs ruler Acamapichtli . The only way one could rise up to another class in the system was to perform an outstanding military achievement.
Gogol's disconnected relationship with his parents is one of the main reasons why he rejected his Bengali heritage for an American one. In The Namesake By Jhumpa Lahiri, one of Gogol's biggest trials in his life, involves his Indian heritage and his want to be American. His relationship with his parents, and their Bengali culture, affects his feelings towards Bengali culture, and, being rebellious, vouches for the American Dream. Gogol's first unnatural experience with Bengali culture occurs when he enters elementary school. A Bengali tradition is that one person is supposed to have two names.
In our Art Appreciation class at RSU, during the fall semester, we watched a presentation on two artists. The artists were Vincent van Gogh and Don McLean. Our professor found the video on YouTube. The song “Vincent” by McLean played in the background, while a slideshow of van Gogh’s most famous works appeared on the screen. The song beautifully describes van Gogh’s life and work in a melancholy way. Because of the way the video was put together, it was almost like two artists talking to each other, though many years apart.
The Aztec's back then had a very stunning capital. Hernàn Cortès, the Spanish conquer, was very awed by the Aztec's capital. He said "there is one square....where their are more than 60,000 souls, buying, and selling". Tenochtitlàn was pretty advanced for its time
The government is in some ways selfish and is focused purely on dominating the surrounding areas. The people within this civilization really do not think for themselves and when they do, their are consequences to be given. There is constant fear over what the future holds for the Aztec Empire to the point where everyone focuses on securing the future without enjoying the present. The people are constantly making sure their actions won’t upset the “natural balance” of things, which must be exhausting. The government constantly is at war trying to gain more power. There are diseases taking out citizens left and right and this point is not relevant, but you are not allowed to be drunk in public unless you are over the age of 70, just a fun fact. The location of this empire isn’t especially amazing, and the land itself isn’t superb compared to other civilizations. There are great things about the Aztec Empire, however, for the majority of the citizens, I would not recommend this kind of lifestyle to anyone. If I were you, I would stay clear of the Aztec empire and look elsewhere to create a new
