The Bass Player 's Role

The role of a Drum Major is to be a bridge between the students and the directors helping to further the director’s awareness. Drum Majors also help the band operate effectively by doing behind the scenes work ensuring everyone’s preparedness. In concert season Drum Majors are to continue to give their utmost dedication to the directors as an example to others.

Definition of Role - the position or purpose that someone or something has in a situation, organization, society, or relationship. (Anon., 2017). In education environment there is assumption for a role of teacher, tutor, mentor, instructor, lecturer, etc. The main role for a teacher is to teach to the best ability, engaging all students in planned activities. Without highly stimulating learning opportunities, students will not be able to progress in their learning and develop in their future careers.

The movie, And the Band Played On, illustrates the beginning of the AIDS virus and how it unexpectedly spread across the world. It used the Ebola disease to indicate that there will be another severe disease surfacing. The world was not prepared to handle such a transmissible disease. Doctors globally presumed that the first cases of the HIV virus to be just a deformity of a specific disease. Their negligence of this issue was the beginning of the spread of this AIDS. Throughout the movie, it shows various points, such as the start of HIV, the misunderstandings it gave, and the fear it stimulated amongst doctors and everyone else.

I help out a lot with our band program and make sure everything is running as smoothly as it can be in that moment. I have people come and ask me for help on music, conducting, and how to set up sectionals pretty frequently. I set up the band room every morning and take attendance and people know that they need to come to me with issues pertaining to that. I also am a librarian for both bands and have helped people, on more than one occasion, get music that they lost or left at home. I am grateful that I have been given the chance to hold these positions because they have given me more confidence and responsibility in our band

A Drum Major is a positive role-model; someone who others can look to as an enthusiastic and dedicated example. A Drum Major ultimately leads the band, and does so energetically and humbly. Respecting those around you and gaining the respect and trust of peers is essential. As Drum Major, one is expected to treat others with kindness and integrity. A Drum Major is someone who is fully involved and invested in their band and peers, and is someone who works to serve others. As a Drum Major, one must put the band first and support those around him or her. I’m the tuba section leader in the Pride of Broken Arrow (my high school marching band) for my junior and senior year and i’m also a leading and active member at my church, especially in the youth group. Doing those things are very important to me because they gave me some leading experience early on in my adulthood that many people don't get until college or after they start working.

Leader – the main job of a leader in sports is to help the team organise properly, motivate others, and work as a team. By doing all these things your team can make a big impact when playing. The leader should communicate and organise well in order to help his players understand. The equipment should be organised properly during every training session which helps players improve. Any equipment that is broken which could injure the players should not be there.

The position of drum major is a vital role in the entire team of a marching band. As the 2017 drum majors we promise that we will have the band in mind when making decisions and when developing the best show possible. As a group we know that we posses the necessary qualities of a drum major.

Dave plays drums, guitar, bass guitar, and basically anything you put in front of him. The craziest part about him being able to play all of these instruments is that he plays them just as well, if not better, than someone who focuses solely on one one instrument. He can even sing!
