Songs are like poems, having literary devices, expressing personal feeling, telling stories, the inspiration could base on real life. Also, songs could achieve experiences as films do, when people are listening to them. “Help” is one of the famous Beatles’ songs in 1965. It is a song which expresses the feeling and situation of the songwriter, John Lennon, during the time of the early Beatles.
The song’s title, “Help” is using just one single word to make a strong eagerness of getting aid, which exactly is the main theme. It was the peak of the Beatles when the song came out. “Beatlesmania”, one maniac phenomenon caused lots of problems. First, the lyrics are using the main theme and the title “help” as the opening with a short and quick tempo in the intro, which is expressive like rush into listeners’ mind and stuck in their heads. Moreover, by using repetition, the concept of “help” is easier to remember deeply. It is how the songwriter was trying to tell and awaken people about the troubles he was facing. Moreover, the line “Won’t you please, please help me?” has repeated in the three chorus. Also using a rhetorical question to keep asking the listener. Just as begging the audience to stop the crazy actions. The song structure is ABABAB. Repeating the verse and chorus in simple rhythms is catchy to people, the listeners would sing or hum the song out easily. There are many pairs of rhymes in verse and chorus. “Assured” and “Doors”, “Today” and “way”, “Down”, “‘round” and “Ground”, “Ways” and “Hazes”, “Insecure” and “Before” Rhymes are pleasing ears, which is important and common in lots of famous music. To depict the feeling, the songwriter has used metaphor in the lyrics. Figuratively, “opened up the doors” means the speaker different than the olden days, he is willing to leave the pride and get help from the others. Using metaphor can help the listeners imagine the scenario of how the speaker change just like open doors. Furthermore, the early Beatles were down to earth and humble, thus, John Lennon adds an American slang in the lyrics, “Feet on the ground”
