The video I have decided to evaluate is “The beauty of being a misfit” by Lidia Yuknavitch. With Lidias speech, she was able to get her point across clearly, I was able to follow and not lose interest or track of the message she was trying to perceive to her audience. Lidia was able to get her main idea and point across by reaching out to her audience with her own personal life story of being a misfit in almost everything she did, but still being a misfit and accomplishing her dream was clear and understanding. So, clear that while she was speaking, my life and my misfits were running through my head. Her purpose of her speech was effective because it made me realize that you can only live out your story and make it what you want to do with
There was a point in the videos pertaining to discipline, which I found to be very important. The video stated that when learning disabled students get in trouble, they often do not understand why because of their perception of the event or issue. It is important that teachers take the time to get a better understanding of how a student may have perceived a task.
One section of the video focuses on how shame leads to hiding. This section really resonated with me. One individual describes shame “as you are wrong.” I felt terrible hearing the stories how one of the
First, you did a wonderful job describing the different events in the three videos. You present the information well and effectively. However, I would have to disagree that the “Drunk History: Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks” video better demonstrates the rhetorical strategies. I agree logos is portrayed by the woman describing the events of Claudette that result in the Bus Boycott in a logical order, and I agree pathos is presented when the woman describes the unfairness experienced by Colvin and Parks on the bus. However, I disagree that ethos is demonstrated in this video. The woman is intoxicated as she presents the events, and this can take away from her credibility. The viewers believe someone they trust, and the “perception of the speaker”
What is the tone of this video? What is the purpose? Who is the audience? Did you like the video, or not? Why?
The first video i watched was Shelby Bloomer’s “For Crying Out Loud”; one of the pieces that the captains recommended. Her theme was the stigma around crying and how crying is actually a helpful coping mechanism that releases toxic substances from the body. Her performance was extremely clean, and the way her voice projected through the audience was extremely effective in her delivery. Throughout her performance, there were numerous humorous aspects to it (mainly about babies) to keep the audience entertained and engaged through her piece. What made the humor in her piece was the way she said the jokes; it was in a way that was obviously meant to be funny but was incorporated and spoken in a way that made it seem that it wasn’t supposed to
In the book “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”, Flannery O’Connor shows that due to being misunderstood the misfit choose resentment towards the world. The following is the reason I think he could be misunderstood the incriminating evidence against him, a lack of conscience, and if he believes in Jesus.
What can I take away from the experience of observing this video that will help me build knowledge and Self-Awareness in Therapeutic Communication?
The first thing I liked about this clip was the girls’ confidence. This greatly had a huge impact on the overall video and on me because these girls were confident with what they were saying. Anybody can say claims and counterclaims regarding what they are speaking for but, if they don’t have a loud, clear and strong
this video has impacted me and what I will take away from this video. Also, what will be
The Misfit is our antagonist in the short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” written by Flannery O’Connor. He is a mysterious man who’d give you the sense of trust, but his actions are not pardoning. He’d show the qualities of a good man and the qualities of a psychopath. His background and stories don’t quite fit his actions, that is why he calls himself “The Misfit.” Although The misfit’s actions are ringing the bell of a psychopath, his inner-self shows otherwise. The Misfit is full of flaws but he is no psychopath, he’s just a man who is forced to live a life that was not meant for him. Deep down inside he’s a good man, but life forced him to act differently.
A speech that stood out to me because of how well it showed this particular person’s personality was Aleese’s final impromptu speech. Not only did it showcase her bright and fun personality, it had the audience laughing until they were crying. The audience felt her pathos, or emotion, that she put into her speech as soon as she began to light up the room. The crowd got a taste of her ethos when she began her speech unlike anyone else by speaking in a different language. She ended her speech by asking the class to join in by making a noise that she had just made in order to welcome the upcoming throat singing group. This is by far the one speech that stood out to me throughout the course not only because it had me crying with laughter, but
In the last scene of “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” the grandmother is pleading for her life with the Misfit using two different ways, religion and love. Reading through this part many times I picked up on the fact that the Misfit may not just be a misunderstood soul who was not nurtured in the right way but may also have some mental illness. I think this because he has a memory shift he had of not remembering what he did and also the change in character we see. I feel that the Misfit does not show remorse for his actions, saying “Nobody had nothing I wanted. (O’Connor, 9)
The Misfit is a complex character created by Flannery O’Connor. He is talked about first when the Grandmother reads his criminal background at the breakfast table. Right when the Misfit meets the family the Grandmother starts questioning his faith and past, and through the Grandmother’s persistent behavior that you find out the truth behind the Misfits hard exterior. The reader understands that the Misfit was brought up by parents who were the “finest people in the world” (O’Connor 1312). With this type of background, how can one expect the Misfit to be such a cold blooded killer? Because of his kind nature in the beginning of the story, it’s almost impossible to understand how he could just kill. Through deeper analysis one can
I felt that it would have been beneficial for me to use more visual aids in presenting my topic. Rather than just talking about my topic and the music, I feel that if I showed some actual footage
This semester has been filled with informative information when speaking about our own social skill, but also other people’s social psychology as well, thus is why it will be very useful in future. Throughout the semester we studied everything from the introduction of social psychology, social influences, aggression in psychology, and interpersonal attraction and close relationships. A lot of the knowledge that I gained was not only from the “Social Psychology” textbook, but also in the videos and the reactions that we needed to come up with on a weekly basis. I like the idea of being able to watch the video to see if the experiment was successful or unsuccessful and commenting on it by giving my opinion if I agreed or not. For me,
