A lawyer--When people imagine our criminal justice system, no one thinks about those working behind the scenes. What comes to mind first is those working out in the field, like police officers and detectives. But the system itself takes more than just those doing the hands-on work to get the job done. Lawyers, judges, and paralegals are the unexpected driving force behind the criminal justice system. They determine the outcome of numerous cases as well as creating a balanced, just environment. Without them, the jails and prisons would be overcrowded. Not to mention those that deserve justice will not receive the right treatment. Becoming a lawyer entails many different aspects and challenges that may not appeal to everyone. But, I am confident this is the vocation I want to pursue because I am passionate about fighting for those whose voices are not heard. There are many different skill sets and difficulties that come with being a lawyer but that does not make it any less desirable as a vocation for myself. There are various requirements to become a lawyer depending on which type an individual intends to become. This vocation encompasses many years of higher education and schooling before it can be a steadfast career. Becoming a lawyer usually takes seven years of full-time study after high school and four years of undergraduate study, followed by three years of law school. Although, this is not a set timespan.
