The great debate on vaccinations is one that is substantially argued on both sides of the spectrum. Some people believe that all children should be vaccinated and immunized before attending a public school or daycare. On the other hand, some people believe that parents should not be required to vaccinate their children and should have the right to chose if they want to subject their children to vaccination and immunizations or not. But in order to understand what exactly a vaccine is useful for, we must define what an immunization and vaccine are. According to the World Health Organization, “Immunization is the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine. Vaccines stimulate he body’s own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection or disease” (WHO, 2017). Immunizations are useful because they can save your child’s life, it’s very safe and effective, it protects others you care about, it saves your family money and time, and it protects future generations (“Five important reasons to vaccinate your child,” 2017). Based on the benefits, immunizations have such a positive impact on our society. As a parent we serve to protect our precious and vulnerable children, so why would you not want to immunize your child despite all the positive benefits?
