The benefits of automation: JavaBooks scenario In today's highly competitive book marketplace, it is essential that an organization is responsive to changes and shifts in demand. For a small retailer, being able to give the customer what he or she wants when the item is needed is essential, given the ease which customers can simply go online and order the item (and price shop). Sound inventory control systems are a must, and that means using automation. "Inventory control is important to ensure quality control in businesses that handle transactions revolving around consumer goods. Without proper inventory control, [even] a large retail store may run out of stock on an important item" (Inventory control system, 2013, Barcodes). Good inventory control promotes efficiency and accuracy as well: "a good inventory control system will alert the retailer when it is time to reorder" (Inventory control system, 2013, Barcodes). It is also less prone to error than manual counting, better enabling the retailer to keep track of large shipments. The same is true regarding the accuracy of invoice generation. When customers receive inaccurate invoices, they grow angry and dissatisfied with the service and are likely to take their business elsewhere. Or, human error can lead to a failure for invoices to be generated at all. With automation, invoices are sent out on a regular and predictable basis.
