The Benefits of Music Education Due to budget cuts, students all across America are missing an opportunity that could benefit them greatly. Many changes all across America are cutting the fine arts program out of schools. The fine arts program is incredibly important for a child. Children should be exposed to music at a young age to help them succeed as an adult. Music education should be properly funded so they can gain important knowledge and life skills in school. Music benefits kids in multiple ways, and many people do not understand what music can do for a child. Studies show that students who study the arts receive higher grades and and better scores on tests such as the SAT (Phillips). Studying music gives children a glimpse into other cultures and teaches them to be much more empathetic to people in those cultures (Phillips). Kids studying music are shown other cultures and they better understand that they aren't the only culture out there. Children can express themselves through music more. Because music may help a child want to live, the challenge is to make life more meaningful and to reach a higher stage of development (Phillips). Music can make a kid feel good about themselves and make them want to do better since they can contribute a lot. Performing teaches young kids to conquer fear and take risks (Phillips). Stage fright and performance anxiety will always occur in life, so it is better to start off young and deal with it at a younger age than to have it affect someone when they are older so it will be less of a problem later in life. Students who are in music learn what could be defined as good work or mediocre work because of the craftsman skills they gain while they put together pieces of music (Phillips).
