Desperate and in need of help family members may look towards the military as the possible solution to their situation. Tricare, the name of the military health care, is provided to every service member and their family in return for their four to five years of service. Tricare states that the company “provides services including dental insurance, mental health care, pharmaceutical needs, special needs coverage and vision care based on the variety of coverages a member receives” (Tricare 1). All of these health care services provided could help those in need. Providing health insurance is one of the military’s special tools for gaining volunteers. Instead of forcing people to join, offering services to others in need helps draw volunteers.
There are a lot of graduates fresh out of high schools that make the decision to use the military. There are some people that join the military because that is a fast and easy choice for them. The military gives everyone a wide variety of options. College for instance, the military allows you to serve your country and still have time to attend college and get a degree if you choose to do that. People that choose to join the military get the option to go to college anytime they feel during their military career. The military pays for part or all the tuition. The military has four different branches, Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marines. Each branch offers different trades. Air Force for example, teaches people to fly, have mechanical skills,
Many people would likely disagree that service members should be better compensated. Some have voiced the concern because it is a volunteer military that the benefits of free medical and dental benefits, tuition assistance programs, free travel and free meals and housing for service members is all the benefit necessary for serving. Military medical personnel are among the best in their fields. With ever major medical specialty available military service members have access to some of the most comparable health care facilities in the country including the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and the much-acclaimed Walter Reed Army Medical Center located in Silver Spring, MD. Service members have the opportunity to travel for free to places many people dream of ever being able to see. The GI Bill provides a financial support for service members to achieve the post secondary educations and while serving on active duty personnel can take college courses at little or no cost to them. In short many of today's private-sector companies can hardly compare what the offer the employees what the government offers those serving.
Serving the United States Military comes with many responsibilities as well as pressure and accountability. However, the military isn’t for everyone, but it offers so much for those who serve. One thing that must be known and dealt with is that this career could be a life threatening one, and there are many obstacles one must go through beforehand.
Being in the military comes with plenty of benefits. Free education is probably the number one reason (how do you think I am paying for my school right now). You get to travel and see things you thought you would never see. Not only do you become physically tough but also mentally tough. You become prepared for the tough civilian life. Markos Moulitsas Zuniga repots that, “The Army taught me the very values that make us progressives--community, opportunity, and investment in people and the future.” Although many feel that they should not join the military it can really improve our lives and they way we think.
Not to mention, it is one of the benefits that was offered when you sign your contract to give up your life and become a member of the military. With the exception of the family dental program which has a minimum premiums and a cost share. My family does have this plan and there is co-pay and deductible for dental work but well visits has no out-of-pocket cost. Since dental work is not needed all the time for the most part my family does not have to pay out-of-pocket for all areas of health care (Tricare ,2015).
In World War I, the servicemen had postponed benefits that were promised to them. This caused political turmoil and the response was the Servicemen Readjustment Act of 1944, which is also known as the GI Bill. This bill provided a range of benefits for the returning World War II veterans. The GI Bill made a step in the right direction to ensure rightful benefits to the veterans, but did have faults. The American Legion played an important role in the enactment of the bill. The GI Bill did not advocate discrimination, but had been interpreted differently for African-Americans. The bill also did not include Merchant Marines, which were carriers and ships that delivered war supplies to the soldiers. Over the years, adjustments to the GI Bill were made.
On top of all that, a member receives military benefits such as life insurance, medical benefits, and access to the Post Exchange and Commissary.
Many people are concerned about the U.S. military because of how many risks come with joining it. However, the U.S. military also explains the benefits that one could receive. Joining the military is a decision that should not be taken lightly. One must understand all aspects of the military. In order for a voter to be fully informed about joining the US military, one must consider both the risks, like mental illnesses and commitment and benefits, like education, and experience.
During the WWII public sentiment grew to help World War II veterans return to civilian life. Most veterans had served for a long duration. Millions of American service members had served for four years or more. Some 671,8l7 men and women had been wounded, and 405,399 had been killed. Hundreds of thousands of dependents were left in need. Congress responded in 1944 with the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act, the “GI Bill of Rights.” President Roosevelt signed the bill, which dramatically transformed the concept of veteran’s benefits, into law on June 22. There were three key provisions. The first benefit provided up to four years of education or training. The education package included the payment of up to $500 a school year for tuition, fees, books
For employees of the U.S Military including the air force, army, navy, marine and coastal guards, one can get tax advice and help from the free tax services provided by the Armed Forces Tax Council. Below is the structure of this free military tax service:
Serving in the Military for 17 years, it has taught me many skills to be successful in life and when attending online schools or traditional learning in classroom environments. Of those skills are leadership, organization, reasoning, problem solving, oral communications, planning, and adaptive skills. Some of these skills I try to use during school such as organization, planning, and being adaptive. These skills are what I would say that I bring to the program and that they will continue to help me throughout my academic journey. Being able to be organized is key to ensuring that our coursework flows smoothly along with our everyday life styles. If we are unorganized then it can become very chaotic and unproductive to completing school work
Probably one of the biggest aspects of the Army’s Total Compensation plan is the free medical coverage provided to all soldiers. I cannot think of another organization that offers a totally cost free medical package for its employees. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the leadership in the Army is very supportive of soldiers attending medical appointments in order to maintain a high level of medical readiness, which is a critical aspect of the Army being able to conduct its mission. Soldiers do not see a physician when they are injured or ill initially. The first line of medical screening includes unit medical personnel, which includes medics and the unit physician’s assistant. If it is determined that the soldier will require treatment or diagnosis from a physician they are then referred to a doctor. This is a key way that the Army saves money on its no cost medical coverage. By not having a soldier be seen by a physician immediately and having a lower ranking medic, who gets paid much less, conduct the initial assessment and possibly remedy the situation, the Army save substantial money. Of course, if a soldier is critically injured or ill they can always go to the military installation emergency room for treatment or call 911 for assistance. Depending on the nature of the injury or illness, and whether or not the appropriate physician or specialist is available at the military installation, a soldier
It specifically targets current and retired military officers and their dependents for a variety of insurance, asset management, and quality of life programs. Most insurance companies do not carry a full package of financial products.
