The Benifits of Dance On the Human Body
If there was a prescription you could take to give you flexibility , make you fit , healthy , have a great self-confedance , a stress reliever , helped chronic pain and so much more would you take it ? Dancing is a lot more enjoyable than swallowing a pill and it does all this and much more . Dancing has many benifits to many systems in your body like your circualatory system your skeletal system your musclar system and your over all mental health .
The Skeletal System
Your skeletal system's responce to dance is unbelievable . When you dance your skeletal system respondes to this exercise by taking in more calcium which then makes your bones stronger and have a higher bone density . The cells that bring calcium into the bones are called Osteoblasts . Osteoblasts slow down during inactivity and speed up during inactivity taking in very large amounts of calcium into your bones . Your skeletal system respondes to weight-bearing exercise like dance more than anyother type of activity . Weight-bearing exercise are a type of exercise that require your body to work against gravity . Your skeletal system naturally loses it's bone mass after age thirty therefore dancing more before your older can reduce your risk of low bone density and will help your bones not break so easily . The quotes “For most people, social dancing begins in pleasure,” and “Of course, people sometimes feel pressure to dance in ways that are otherwise associated with pleasure; social dancing can serve many functions in a society,” from Chapter 4 of Dancing: The Pleasure, Power, and Art of Movement (Jonas 2003), peaked interest in me when thinking of all the various dance forms that we have talked of in class and even those outside of class. One in particular that has interested me the most is swing dance. With family member involvement in the past and having multiple friends take part in the Swing Dance Club here on the Wayne State University Campus for pleasure, enjoyment and social interaction has made me want to go more in depth about it. With the help from academic sources and knowledge from class lectures I will be researching the history of swing dancing, the forms of swing dancing, and what gender roles take place within these movements.
Dancing gives me a place to be my self, and is my outlet from stress and daily life. The moment the song begins i am a mirror image of the piece, my arms swing high as the beat takes my feet away. I express whatever pain or hardship i am partaking in through a heart felt face. My love for dance led me to try out for Advanced Dance my junior year. Dance has allowed me to meet an amazing group of people, while letting me show off my goofy personality. Being able compliment a beautiful music piece singing or dancing is a rush like no other. Music is my life, and it has been a vice for me growing up. Along with other sports, dance involves physical exertion and requires skill. It can be inferred that when athletes undergo physical activity, they push themselves to their limit, which results in them becoming sore, and possibly even injured in some cases. This also pertains to dancers. Dancers can pull a muscle by overstretching or by not stretching enough. They can also break any bone by doing turns, flips, jumps, and tricks. In Ronald Smith’s article, he proceeds to explain
“Dancer’s are the athletes of God,” Albert Einstein said. Dance has many structures to it; there is modern, ballet, contemporary, and tap just to name a few. Dancing should be recognized as a sport. Dancing has the same components as a sport does; dance improves memory, balance and coordination, and it provides a mental escape.
What do you think makes people better at the activity that they are doing such as constantly improving their agility and strength? Dance should be considered a sport. First, dancers put in as much stamina and sweat that football players do. Also, you are still competing against other companies for the win so it is still competitive. She also highlighted the interpersonal benefits of dancing, like a sense of community, social support and just having fun. Ali’s laid-back personality reflects the calming nature of dance.
In an article by Maria Barrios, she expresses the importance and benefits of dancing. She points out that certain types of dance can be a fun total body workout. I definitely agree because of my personal experience with dancing. After an hour long dance class I feel sweaty and tired then a few minutes later I feel energized like I could do it again. Barrios also points out that dance not only benefits your body but also your mentality.
Modern dance was created as a rebellion against the prevalent dance forms of the time, ballet and Vaudeville. It is a form of theatrical dance, known for its continual fusion of non-western style and ideas, which allows for a fresh source of movement inspiration. Choreographers rejected what they classified as the inflexible and imperialistic nature of ballet, and in order to be taken seriously as artists rather than simple entertainers they created a new art form. Artists Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, and Ruth St. Denis are considered to be the pioneers of modern dance in America. Dance is a social institution, recognized as being an important function in civilized life. The following essay will focus on the theory and work of artist Isadora Duncan, while incorporating lecture notes and articles of both authors Sally Bane and Ann Daly to explain the historical situations that culminated in the development of early modern dance. Arising from the 20th century modern dance was a form of cultural collaboration and exploration, as well as a resistance to colonial repression. Modern dance allowed for the experimentation of the new as well as a freer form of dance movement. Choreographers drew on exotic sources, and example of this illustrated in the work of Isadora Duncan with her use of Greek culture as a movement inspiration. Artists act as both the choreographer and performer creating their own conventions, or dance language.
Just like any other sport, there are many different groups inside of the dance community. You can treat dance as doing it for fun, a club, a hobby, a serious passion or a career. You can do the same thing with all other sports as well.

It takes both an athlete and an artist to be able to dance. Dance requires you to have muscular strength, flexibility, physical and emotional endurance. People usually question why dancers love what they do when there is a whopping 80% of professional dancers that get injured every year. The answer is simple though, what keeps them going though is the constant love and encouragement from friends and family.

From the Cambridge Dictionary Online, ballet can be defined as “a type of dancing in which controlled movements of the body are designed to express the beauty of physical motion, often while telling a story, or a piece of music for such dancing.” With ballet’s long history, it has shifted through various eras of time, including Ballet de Cour, Opera Ballet, Romanticism, Classical, Russian Imperialism, and the current modern era. All of which are characterized by particular ballets, prominent people, and various other theatrical elements. However, as the art of ballet evolved through the different eras, the emotions, messages, and nonverbal cues of each ballet changed to fit the societal norms and standards.
Everyone has their own hobby or activity, an interest of sorts, that makes them unique. Dance has always been mine. From the moment I could walk I was already dancing everywhere I went. I had to practice most days of the week, have my own practices at home, and attend recitals on the weekends. So many of my hours were given up to dancing that people would often ask, do you truly enjoy it? Aren't you tired of it? My answer has always been and will always be no. To me dance has never been a burden, but rather a passion that has shaped me into the person I am today. I love to dance because it's not only a physical activity, but a mental one as well. Through dance I'm able to clear my head and truly think about things without letting anything else take over.
