Methods
The question that I am interested in for research is, “Does a person’s view of the Bible influence what they think about the death penalty for murderers.” I would like to see if a person’s view of the bible influence what they think of the death penalty. This is interesting to me because I am interested in the field of criminal justice and the death penalty is a huge topic to this day. There are many journals that talk about studies that were done on religion and views of the death penalty which have to do with my topic of interest.
My hypothesis is that those who believe that the bible is the Word of God, or the truth, will support the death penalty for murder. In a study done by Baron that was talked about in an journal showed

This variable is nominal because the choices do not have a ranking order. My independent variable is feelings about the Bible which also came from the GSS dataset. Feelings about the Bible is measured by, Word of God, Inspired Word, Book of Fables or Other. The participants were asked, “Which of these statements comes closest to describing your feelings about the Bible” and they could pick from one of three choices which were, “The bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally word for word (1), The bible is the inspired word of God but not everything in it should be taken literally (2), word for word and The bible is an ancient book of fables, legends, history and moral precepts recorded by men (3).” Feelings about the Bible is an ordinal variable because there is a ranking order, but the distance between each is not known. I used Correlations to test my hypotheses and these tests were done using SPSS 2008.

When the statistics were calculated many things could be interpreted from it. It portrayed that most people responded with “The Bible is the inspired word of God but not everything in it should be taken literally, word for word.”, which would be the mode. The mean for the independent variable is 1.9 which is in between saying the Bible is the Actual word and saying it is an Inspired Word but learns more towards it being the Inspired Word.
