By "The Big Day" I refer to my Toefl exam. I am very nervous about the exam as it is an extremely important exam for me which will decide my future. All my hopes and dreams are vastly depended on this exam and I am unfortunately not been able to study for it, so I've decided to write in this journal to improve my English. I will continuously check the grammar and writing on rate my essay website since it is an exceptionally beneficial website. So I think I will write everything I think in this journal and I hope it will be a knowledgeable exercise for me. So I met my friend Arshan today; I have known him for about 10-12 years now. He is the one who has seen me in my best and my worst behavior. He himself was feeling a bit low today but I managed
After this conversation, I felt a little bit happier because I got to talk to a friend that I haven’t spoken to in such a long time. I felt that it improved my
In the novel “ Break of Day” by Tony Palmer he depicts the themes of family, bravery and death. The story is about Murray, a boy who lived during the war time and his story that follows the themes of family, death and bravery. First talking about family, in addition talking about death and finally talking about bravery.
My first visit to Daybreak consisted mostly of learning about the facility and helping the girls work on their team building projects. When we first arrived, I begin to realize how serious the situation these girls are in is. I was told to put a lock on my phone and to not share too much information about myself. At first I was extremely nervous, but once we entered the common room with all the girls I started to feel more comfortable. These girls have been through more then I could ever imagine. I have been sheltered from drug abuse for most of my life and I never could have thought that girls so young could get caught up in hard drugs such as crack and heroin.
The American television film The Day After is a 1980s-science fiction film dramatizing the catastrophic events resulting from a nuclear fallout between the United States and the Soviet Union. The movie documents the accustomed lives of two diverging families in three distinct, chronological stages. The first phase begins in a pre-war period during which Dr. Russell Oakes and his wife, Helen, a noble Kansas City family, receive word from their daughter that she will be moving to Boston. Meanwhile, in the bordering state of Missouri, the Dahlberg’s, a rural family of five, are preparing for the upcoming marriage of their eldest child, Denise. Amid these monumental changes, the families are further burdened by an emergency broadcast, warning a sudden declaration of war.
“Time truly does fly by, but the memories will still be the very same.” Me and Tai were really great friends ever since going to elementary. We grew up in the same neighborhood, and our personalities click ever since.
Aron Ralston, the author of Between a Rock and a Hard Place creates a very notable portrait of himself just within the first few pages of the novel. Ralston presents himself to be tenacious, bold, and a relatively experienced outdoorsman. Ralston describes a faulty trial of climbing, “I’m committed to my course; there’s no going back” (Ralston 20). This quote shows how determined Ralston is to his mission, the hiking trip. It becomes clear that Ralston values nature as he is so committed to this trip. Ralston ponders, “Some other marvelous force is in control, and has been all along” (Ralston 247). Ralston believes in some greater being that controls life. This says a lot about his character as he can believe in something he cannot feel, hear or see. The wilderness is not new to Ralston, as he’s been mountain climbing, hiking, skiing, as well participating in many other outdoor activities for years before his near death experience. Ralston exclaims, “Saying farewell is also a bold and powerful beginning” (Ralston 342). When Ralston was reaching the end in the fight for his life, he began
In the reading “On a Typical Day,” it provides statistics on typical day for the U.S Customs and Border Protection officers. The reading states many statistics that come to a surprise to me. One, for example, would be that CBP seize about 7,910 pounds of drugs each day. In which means in a year over 2,887,150 pounds of drugs are seized from individuals attempting to smuggle over the border. I found this very shocking because I guess I never realized how many individuals do try to cross the border while attempting to smuggle in drugs. Another statistic that surprised me is that CBP intercepted 20 fraudulent documents, which means in a year 7,300 fraudulent documents are intercepted. I’m really surprised that the number is only 20 a day because
From IPhones to new cars to discounted food, advertisements and the desire for the newest or cheapest items surround humans every day. Socially we are held responsible to not only “keep up with the Joneses” anymore, but also the Kardashians, Gates, and Walton families. Today’s society has proven that the desire to have the newest items for the most affordable prices stands more important than our true happiness. Joseph Turow provides in his article, The Daily You: How the New Advertising Industry Is Defining Your Identity and Worth, which the advertising industry has greatly affected your consumption habits and the prices you look for. James A. Roberts grows on that idea, in that with the help of these advertising firms, you continue to run
I started out not liking this film, the grainy film style and hand cam movements was a real turn off. But as the film went those problems started to work heavily in its favor. As I've stated in the past I'm not a fan of werewolf films, with some rare exceptions and while The Big Bad isn't one of the rare few I love. It is one that I would say I thoroughly enjoyed.
While there are many stories where Boccaccio informally declares women to be the victor, the revers is also true. There are also stories where men come out victorious over women but, the only reason that happens is because of their depravity and not through their use of intellect. For example, on Day 4 Story 9, Messer Guglielmo Rossiglione treacherously calls Messer Guglielmo Guardastagno and attacks him from behind upon behind out he is having an affair with his wife (635). Here Rossiglione obtains what he desires – taking revenge and in doing so ends up loosing his wife and his best friend and in the end, runs away ashamed of the act he had committed.
Driving, in theory, is a simple concept. Push the gas to go, and go straight until you want to turn. Driving on a lonely road, down a straight path is something most could do in their sleep. But continue down this straight path and it will eventually be interrupted by a new road. It is where these two roads converge that things begin to get complicated. The intersection of two roads that come from two different beginnings, and lead to two completely different destinations; there are regulations to ensure each driver makes it through the crossroads. Now imagine a road with five intersections, or ten, or fifteen. Each person is a combination of these intersections; a mess of pasts and futures that make her unique. Society has attempted to regulate
Throughout this year I have learned and accomplished many things in regards to my overall writing. English 112 has taught me many useful skills including different ways to organize and structure my writing, new methods to incorporate critical thinking into my pieces, and even how to better my writing with sentence varieties. The most improved area of my writing after this course is the creation and development of the opening thesis statement.
