The term personality refers to the various qualities an individual possesses that forge their unique character (Letzring, Wells, & Funder, 2006). It is important as it distinguishes individuals from their peers through their patterns of behaviors such as individual differences in mental, social, emotional and physical aspects (Allport, 1937). An individual’s psychological characteristics such as thoughts, feelings, motivation and they perceive the world are manipulated by their personality. The Big Five personality traits is a model based on five dimensions that provide understanding into individual personalities and perceptions of the world (Barrick & Mount, 1991). The five aspects consist of openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. Openness to experience refers to elements such as creativity, intelligence, curiosity towards a diversity of interests and experiences (Ko & Lin, 2016). Conscientiousness represents volition, dependability, self-discipline and achievement-orientation of an individual (Costa & McCrae, 2008). It was found to have the most impact on employment efficiency (Barrick & Mount, 1991) as it comprises traits such as perseverance, responsibility, diligence, meticulousness and organization. According to Goddard, Patton, & Creed (2004) conscientiousness is also correlated with individual efficacy and accomplishments. One 's personality can help guide an individual throughout one 's life, in addition to having power over the situation or task. Many, if not all of these factors of personality, traits, and genetics, make up who an individual is. One 's may believe an individual 's personality, differences, and individualities is the core of who an individual truly is.
The Big Five personality test was created in the 1970 's by two independent research teams. One team with Paul Costa and Robert McCrae, and the other with Warren and Lewis Goldberg. The two teams had different methods that they tested but in the end they both ended up with the same results. The results were that no matter what culture, race, or language people have their personality fits into five dimensions of personality. The five dimensions were created after reviewing lots of surveys and data analysis called factor analysis. Now, just forty years later the Big Five is one of the most commonly accepted personality models.

In this essay I will first break down larsen and Buss definition and connect it to the domains, then connect the domains to the five factor thoery (FFT).
I found the test results of the Big Five personality assessment to be an interesting and very accurate description of myself. After completing this assessment, I was able to analyze my personality in depth. I found this information to be helpful knowledge and provide insight about myself, as well as being crucial in examining my personality traits. The big five is also referred to the OCEAN model of personality, and stands for the main traits used to describe personalities. This acronym stands for openness to experience/intellect, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. After taking the test I was then given percentile scores that allowed me to compare myself with other people who have taken the test online as well, therefore making it a more meaningful comparison.
