When people think Black Panther Party (BPP) they think violence. Violence is not the only occurrence that is associate with the BPP. Many good factors have emerged from the Black Panther Party, such as the creation of Black Lives Matter (BLM) and the creation of the Black Student Alliance. The Black Panther Party created the Ten-Point Program on March 29, 1972 as a way for non-colored people to understand what people of color needed. Some of the programs took years to accomplish, such as free health care, while others are still being worked on such as police brutality. The BPP wanted respect for African Americans and they felt the silence approach was not working. The only way the party felt they can be heard was to fight back with more than just their words. The Black Panther Party began in the late 1960s and was created by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. When creating the platform for the BPP, both Newton and Seale were not worry about provoking controversy within the ivory towers of the historical profession (Street 351). They were more worried about getting their word across. The creation of the BPP started because of the police murder an unarmed African American man named Denzil Dowell. The murdered was ruled as a “justified homicide”, even though it was no paper work that Dowell was seen in a stolen car before the officer shot him (Roman 11).
