This year there is a big decision to be made in which teachers or students should choose the books for the upcoming year. Although this decision has many opinions on both sides of the argument I only support one. This decision in which the teachers will select the books would be inimitable for several reasons. One reason is that if the teacher selected the books then this would better help the class in lessons and challenge us. In addition, this would also increase test scores and reading ability for all the students in the class. Teachers would also help students to discover advanced genres of books and learn new and innovative vocabulary words. Granted that it would be interesting for the students to choose a book they think is more …show more content…
Finally, if teachers decide on the book selection, then they will also introduce to us new books and genres that will help us to discover new things. To elaborate, I had never heard of a book called, Frightful’s Mountain that we read in 6th grade. I would never have read this book had it not been for my teacher. To clarify, I love to read many different types of books, but I don’t really open myself up to many genres of books.I am like the Liesel of The Book Thief who owns and reads many books. This book that my teacher chose I did not think I would enjoy. In the end, I enjoyed this book very much and did not want it to end. In other words, teachers have a broad, better knowledge of genres. Teachers have read many books and know their class well enough to show them new books that will help them to be astute students. Furthermore, teachers can prove to students that there are many more books out there that they might be interested in, but won’t read. With their guidance students can read a variety of books that helped many students to discover a whole new world of
Who should choose the books for the class to read, teachers or students? I support the decision to let students pick the reading for next school year. The first reason is that students will be more focused on the book because they like it. Next, students will get good grades because they have actually read it. Lastly, they understand it more because they picked their level.
Last night, in sleepy hollow Ichabod Crane vanished, There is evidence to suggest Brom Van Brunt is to blame.
Often in literature, characters relationships change and evolve. In “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller we are shown the events of the 1692 Salem witch trials from the perspective of the townsfolk. Their puritan beliefs and general uneasiness conflicts with the conjectures of those not as solemn as the rest. As a group of girls is caught dancing in the woods, they begin a torment of convictions based upon a lie to save their own reputations. Abigail Williams is one of these girls, and is considered to be the dominating factor of the imprisoned. Her motive being her own infatuation with a man named John Proctor. As their affair develops and with a careful analysis of the play; the audience understands Proctors feelings towards Abigail in the

“The Book Thief,” written by Markus Zusak is a great novel that I would definitely recommend to a friend. There have been many times that someone comes to me and asks, “What book do you suggest I read?” There are a few good books I have read and I often urge people to read the Harry Potter series. However, now I can suggest “The Book Thief,” and I would do so for many different reasons.
Death states that, “I’m always finding humans at their best and worst. I see their ugly and their beauty, and I wonder how the same thing can be both” (Zusak 491). This book shows us human doing things that weren’t even imaginable before this point. Many people give into ideas that were lies. But, we also watch a few people go out of their way and sacrifice everything for a man they barely even know. They do everything they can to keep him safe and alive. They work harder, the get another job, and they even steal. In Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief, death examines the ugliness and the beauty of humans.
The school should not have a book advisory committee because the students of MIS should be able to decide. Everybody should have the freedom to read. The students should know what might happen in real life if its in the book. The students should know what might happen in real life actions, and if they don't they might miss a lot in there life.
The Role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night The main storyline in Twelfth Night is love between Cesario, Orsino, Olivia and later on in the play Sebastian. Malvolio’s part in the play is a backdrop situation separate from the main story. He brings a level of both humour and sympathy to the play. Malvolio is one of the main sources of humour in Twelfth Night.
Books should not be banned from student's curriculum is because students should be able to have a choice and express their creativity with any book of choice. For example, a frequently challenged book is “Of Mice and Men”. “"Of Mice and Men" is widely considered one of the best books by Steinbeck, who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962.”
Reading for fun and enjoyment will be encouraged, with a variety of reading materials and age appropriate topics given as options for each student. Students will be given options for reading assignments, instead of one book for all as has been the custom prior to our new system. We want our children to look forward to curling up with a good book (good by their definition, not a supervising adult) and see it as a pleasurable activity. I want to build a nation of readers, one that goes on beyond the classroom to a lifelong love of books. I want us to do everything in our power to create a lifelong love of learning, and it begins with books.
The books read by High School students can vary from school to school, but are often similar and, in the United States, often set by the state. Even this definition is too much for students. Teachers should be allowed to decide which books are read by their students.
However, the exception is on choice one of the debatable components of independent reading. Some programs label children with levels and students are only allowed to read certain books on their level or books chosen by the teacher. For independent choice reading, students are allowed to choose books of their own interest. Miller (2012, p.89) quotes, “….no single practice inspires my students to read as much as the opportunity to choose their own books does.” Research under independent reading is in support of students’ given choices.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated, ”If we encounter a man or woman of rare intellect, we should ask him/her what books he/she reads.” Our teachers are people of rare intellect, we should attempt to discover what books they read, not what books we read. The decision to let the teachers choose what 7th graders will read in class next year is the best decision out of the options we have. First of all, teachers have a higher understanding of what is mandatory for the content within these books. Furthermore, teachers have read a far greater amount books than us so they have a larger repertoire of books. Lastly, if teachers choose the books it will prevent unnecessary conflicts occurring amongst the class that would have occurred if the students had chosen the books. The following paragraphs will further elaborate on the points above.
Edifiers should be sanctioned to cull all the books they will read in English class throughout the entire school year. First of all, edifiers could evade arguments on which book to read. Second, of all, educators would cull the book which would challenge and influence the student’s skills in a positive way. Lastly, the process of picking and finding books would become more efficient. In other words, that edifiers should be sanctioned to cull all the book they will read in English class throughout the entire school year.
here’s a decision to make, and you and your other classmates know just what to choose. Your teacher wants to have the class decide whether the teacher or the students get to choose the books to read throughout the year. Of course, students would want to choose the books they read, but teachers should choose the books because it would follow the guidelines, they will be appropriate, and they aren’t already read by the students.
