You’re walking with your father than only possesses one leg to a small market place. You get to your spot and you sit down silently. He’s reading letters and occasionally selling items. Suddenly her father is gone thanks to the cruelty of the Taliban and you have to find a way to make money to live. You have to persevere to support your family. Perseverance can be defined as the ability to keep trying at a goal even after many obstacles come your way. In the book The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis it talks about a little girl that has to make difficult decisions to support her family alone. The author portrays perseverance through the adventure of Parvana using many examples of what she did. Parvana had to support her family by herself, dig bones, and other examples of perseverance. …show more content…

She was against the idea at first but then gave up and had to do it for her family. The text states,“I’m not sure this is a good idea,”. This shows at first Parvana was against the idea of digging bones. The text also says “...she obediently fell in behind Shauzia as they ran to catch up with the group.” This illustrates that Parvana was reluctant to the idea of digging up bones. She thought it was disrespectful and disgusting, she ended up doing it because she had to get trays for more money. Another example of perseverance is that Parvana didn't want to become a boy because she wanted her long hair. She did anyway so she could go to the marketplace without being attacked by the Taliban.The Breadwinner states, “You’re not cutting my hair!”, and, “All right,” she said. “I’ll do it” This demonstrates that Parvana is changing herself so she can go to the marketplace. She has to because her father is gone and there is no one to take his place except
