According to the American Psychological Association, “Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words or more subtle actions” (Bullying, 2013). People bully each other for several reasons and there are different outcomes that are a result of those reasons. People can be bullied physically, emotionally, or verbally. Bullying can take place at school or online. Bullying should be a considered a crime, but kids get away with it all the time; furthermore prevention can be used in order to keep kids safe from bullying.
Bullying the Freaks and Geeks Walking down the school hall to the next class, the bully appears before his prey. He stands before his soon to be victims as if he is two feet taller and ten times stronger. His victims attempt to ignore him, but he stops them and puts his face in front of theirs to make sure his presence is known. He then abruptly decides to save his senseless punishment for another day as he passes by with a slight shoulder nudge. To parents and teachers, he was often times known as an intelligent individual with goals that would lead to success in the future. Since 2002, fighting behaviour has increased, especially in grades six to eight. Boys are more likely to start bullying because of being bullied in their past. Girls are most likely to cyberbully. Most kids say that they don’t see bullying around school. In just Minnesota alone there is talk about bullying and how to prevent it. Sen. Franken states, “Nine out of 10 LGBT kids are harassed or bullied in school. One-third report having skipped school in the last month because they felt unsafe” (Shah 14). Kids should not feel unsafe to go to school. School is supposed to be a safe place to go and if someone needs help there are supposed to be people there to guide them. Franken adds, “But the sad fact is that our federal laws are failing” (Shah 14). Laws have been made to try to stop bullying, but bullying continues to exist. This shows how out of control bullying is becoming.

(Background Info) Jamie Nabozny was a boy who was constantly harassed at Ashland Middle and High school for being gay. To deny the existence of bullying throughout the nation, especially within the brick walls of school, is to be ignorant. Bullying is a huge issue that is evident in may schools throughout America. Seventy percent of students throughout schools in America have said that they have witnessed bullying. A total of forty-nine percent of student in grades 4-12 have reported getting bullied at least once a month. Parents have to constantly worry about their child getting picked on while at school. One out of every four students, equalling to around twenty percent, are bullied every year. Around fifty-five million children throughout the United States are attending school this year, many whom are getting bullied.
Bul·ly, Noun, A person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker. This is the basic definition of a bully. Bullying is something that affects a large number of people, especially teens, in every country not just the United States. Bullying is something that can change a person’s attitude towards life. Bullying is something that can permanently change almost anyone’s life. And yet, even though bullying has so many problems and affects so many people, it still is a huge problem in almost (if not every) school in America. I see it in every school I’ve ever been in. An estimated 1 in 5 are bullied, and that is a horrible thought. And that is why bullying should be eradicated.
Fear of others For some people school is fun, exciting and boring, but for others, it terrifying knowing that something may happen to them if they go to school. SLAM! I watched Arnold get slammed into a locker by Steve. I didn’t know what to do. This was a common thing that happened every day. I decided I should tell a teacher. We were learning about algebra, so I had to wait for math to end so I could tell Mr. Willmon what Steve is doing. I thought it will be a piece of cake, but as the class went on, the more I thought about getting bullied myself by Steve. The bell rang and Arnold scurried out of the classroom.
I needed to get to class quickly but, in the hallway it was like a sea full of sharks. Everyone was pushing and shoving their way through the crowd. I tried to do the same but, I was not strong enough to do so. Then I thought what if I became the bully then people would move out if the way for me.
I met Ty in the 5th grade... I think. Anyway,we've been friends for a few years and he's also been in at least one of my classes. He's a great friend and I'll take his side always in any argument,but his mother did tell me to keep track of him for her and make sure he doesn't get in trouble. As I was walking the campus of my high school before school, I was pretty much left alone by the other students. I entered the math building to go to my first class and was inundated by a flood of people meandering about. As I attempted to make my way through the crowd, they parted before me, providing unobstructed room to pass. I looked at the faces of hundreds of students as each of them avoided making eye contact, trying not to draw attention to themselves.
