Competition is one of the main business problems Google is facing. With its abundance of products and services, Google encounters competition from companies that belong to different industries. New disruptive technologies in addition to rapid change are just some of the characteristics of those industries. Google’s competitive landscape includes companies that connect people with information and related advertising on the web. One of them is Yahoo! that competes with Google in search and paid listings. Some of the products created by Yahoo! are direct rivals to Google’s Local Search, Home Page, Froogle, Gmail, Maps, and Picasa applications. In the industry of e-commerce, Google is facing competition from eBay. Both Google Checkout and eBay’s PayPal offer checkout services to third-party retailers. Along with competition, Google is facing a lot of legal problems. Advertisers, news publishers, and users complained about the performance of Google’s core business. For instance, in 2004 Geico sued Google for showing competitors’ ads when users searched for “Geico.” Google News also went under attack when online news publishers repeatedly complained that Google used their content without permission.
