Section One The CAPS test administered for career assessment, the assessment relates to occupation and occupational abilities. In order for this test to be consider reliable, it must consistent in that it measures what it suppose to measure (Knapp, Knapp, & Knapp-Lee, 1992, p. 40), which is occupational abilities. I believe that the CAPS test has acceptable reliable, if the test was re-administered in two weeks, I would have similar results because the timing and length of the test reduced my chances of memorizing the content of the test. To have validity, a test must measure what it purports to measure (Hays, 2013, p. 96). In my opinion, the CAPS has fairly acceptable validity but lacks face validity in that it does not look like it measure occupational abilities but educational abilities. However, face validity does not prove as evidence of validity (Hays, 2013, p. 97). I believe the CAPS has fairly acceptable validity, because it fairly predicts appropriate careers according to the test taker’s high interest areas. While administering the test, I was very nervous at first. I knew that I had to strictly following the administration instructions and was nervous that I would mess up, which could negatively affect the test taker’s results. Towards the third section, it was quite fun as I got the hang of being the administrator. Also, knowing that this was practice eased my anxiety and made it quite fun. I had difficulty scoring because the test taker’s pencil marks were
All students were required to administer the WJ III COG 4 times, first to a classmate, and then 3 more times to volunteers. The first administration for each student was not considered for the study, which produced 108 testing administrations. These administrations and scores were then examined by advanced level graduate students taught by the same professor. The instrument used for scoring the administrations was a checklist first created by Schermerhorn and Alfonso, and was designed to record the frequency and types of errors made during the administration and scoring of the test (Ramos, 2009, pp. 653).
The purpose of this document is to demonstrate my having acquired and developed the competencies noted by the College of Nurses of Ontario as possibly lacking in my skills and experience. During my time practicing as a nurse in Ethiopia, I feel I have gained the required skills and experience needed to be accredited as a nurse in Ontario. My time working with a diverse array of clients, as well as in different care settings has imbued in me a range of skills and competencies that I feel make me exceptionally qualified to practice as a nurse in Ontario. During my time in practice, as well as in clinical placement, I have been fortunate enough to buttress my learning with a variety of different
While it is certainly true that any individual from any population can face questions, dilemmas, or circumstances regarding their career or occupation, this is an especially pertinent topic when working with those recovering from substance use disorders. Graham (2006) noted the importance surrounding the self-concept of these individuals as a primary factor for not only recovery but future career planning. Darrell Luzzo (2007) noted two different forms of career assessments, and described counselors’ roles in working with individuals’ understandings of their contextual position within occupation investigation. Luzzo defined the utilization of assessments for this purpose as career
This self-assessment test was something that narrowed down possible interest and helped the participants open their mind to new careers. In-fact when I finished my test I was able to view the different careers that feel in my interest category. Taking a survey and calculating the different likes each field had accumulated determined my test outcome. After gathering the likes that had accumulated I was able to determine which inventory category was strongest. My top inventory was conventional which states, I am one who likes to follow set rules and procedures, and prefers detail and clear lines of authority (Self-Assessment, n.d.). My second strongest inventory category was Social, which states, I like work activities that promote learning and development (Self-Assessment, n.d.). Not only did I learn what my strongest inventory was I also had the ability to learn which jobs fell under those categories. Out of each category within the level 5-education requirement, I had one job that stood out over the others; category one conventional had Math Professor. This job is something that would be interesting, but I am not sure if I would want this job as a career. The social category had one job that also caught my eye, health educator. After all the research and looking at each one of the categories and the possible job opportunities I have come to the realization that the test are estimates. I personally do not think I would want to
I feel that the Duquesne Psychology program has helped me prepare for careers or graduate school in relevant fields, though there could be some improvements. As an individual who is interested in two fields, one being Integrated Marketing Communications, this leaves me with a lot of possible career paths after university. I am interested in graduate school, but feel as though I need to take some time off before pursing it. After I take this time off, I may pursue graduate school, which I feel that the department has helped me with through the course of university. Though I am scared and nervous of what the future may hold, I know that my time at Duquesne in the psychology curriculum has made me an excellent candidate for a career or graduate
I have performed similar quizzes in the past and each have had similar results to the Holland Career Assessment. I have began to seriously consider going into politics after my time in the Navy is through. I want to have a positive impact on people around me and each of the jobs I have chosen can do just that. This kind of tool is great way to narrow different degree paths for potential college students and the earlier this kind of assessment is performed, the better. A young person can begin to tailor jobs or apprenticeships in different areas to eliminate careers that are not interesting. An adult can do the same thing when changing careers to find a new career that matches his or her personality. It is also important to know the different
I heard of the Mayo Clinic Career Immersion Program when I was looking for something to introduce me into the medical careers. I have always had an interest in the medical field and have had varying ideas of what I wanted to do. I generally find a career that I would really like to do and research it for a while. I then find something new to do the same thing. This program would help me realize the career aspects that I enjoy because I could get hands on experience with many medical specialties. I am always looking for new learning opportunities. One of my hobbies is reading about new medical advancements so, I am always learning new things about the medical fields. I have an interest with all things human anatomy. In school my favorite classes
The data set collected reveals the students within the Career and Technical Education program, throughout the school, division, and state, who have passed the occupational competency assessments and earned credentials recognized by the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) within the past three years. The assessments includes the NOTCI assessments, state licensure examinations, industry certification examinations, and workplace readiness skills assessments. The data presented is descriptive statistics. The scales of measurement that are used in this data set are ratio and ordinal. According to the student population represented in the first chart of the enrollment
The words “career counseling” and “substance abuse treatment” on the surface appear as two completely isolated areas, with little interconnection. Personally, as an individual in recovery from addiction, as well as professionally, working as a drug and alcohol case manager, experience has shown me that vocation is very relevant to this population. It is one of the primary goal areas in which I work with my clients on a daily basis. Many of these individuals have completed treatment and are looking for new ways to enter the workforce and provide for themselves and their families, while also battling past career mistakes and missteps. Furthermore, education levels have
In order for me to complete this career assessment paper, I initially took an Interest Inventory survey. Upon completing this process, it revealed that my personality profile score was (I, C, A). These three letters represented my strengths and interests in determining which career field would best suit me.
I chose to research a career in Health Psychology, focusing somewhat on clinical work. I chose this career path in particular because of my major and emphasis in Health Psychology; I wanted to know what the opportunities, benefits, and requirements were for pursuing this specific field within psychology. I was made aware of this option as a major emphasis during my first semester at BYU-Idaho, and I knew at that point that I wanted to go on to doctoral studies and possibly medical school, so I switched from a General Psychology emphasis to Health Psychology. I also wanted to know if there were specializations under Health Psychology that would fit with my personal interest in addiction recovery.
The CAPS test is an instrument administered for career assessment, the assessment relates to occupational abilities. I believe that the CAPS test has acceptable reliability, if the test is re-administered in two weeks, my results are bound to be similar due to the timing and length of the test. The timing and length reduced my chances of memorizing the content of the test. On the other hand, to have validity, a test must measure what it purports to measure (Hays, 2013, p. 96). Though a generally overlooked and unappreciated field of work, career counseling has made significant impact in the field of psychology. Frank Parsons’ 1906 lecture, “The Ideal City,” emphasizes the need for young people to receive assistance in choosing a vocation (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2013). Further, Parsons was one of the pioneers in linking personality traits to vocational success, thus coining him as the father of vocational guidance (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey, 2013).
Career assessments are very beneficial when an individual is trying to determine what career path they may be wanting to take. Sometimes new information will become apparent and other times information that is already known to that individual will just be simply solidified. It is important to answer the questions as accurately to oneself as possible. My personal results only reassured me of what I already knew.
I have given a great deal of thought to the next leg of my academic and career journey. As I reflect on the road I've taken to get this far, I realize that I have not only learned a lot there were many late night papers, team projects and plenty of reading I have also grown a great deal on a personal level. I think that the best part of reaching this juncture is the realization that I set a goal and achieved it. It is a good feeling of personal triumph. I know that once my degree is officially completed and conferred it will be an accomplishment that can never be taken away.
