They have a double bond of carbon and carbon. The second carbon bond starts just at the edge of the first carbon bond. They are double-ended acids. The two ends are that of (COOH) and (CH3). These are the methyl end and the acid ending. The methyl ending is also referred to as the omega ending. The benefits of the polyunsaturated fatty acids have been controversial. In some medical acceptances and language, they are called essential fatty acids. The meaning behind this is that they cannot be synthesized by the body cells and metabolic activities. Nonetheless, they are very important for the body's metabolic activities. Typical mammals have no innate ability to synthesize fatty acids. Nonetheless, they have the ability to develop chains that lead to an interconnection between carbons in the body to form polyunsaturated fatty acids (Bracco 1992, p. 45). There are various known sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Some of them include algal oil, fish oils, squid oils, echium oils, and plants oils. These are some of the basic sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids among mammals. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are used for various health purposes. This is because it has different health effects.
