Poe and Byron are masterful at using vivid, descriptive language to develop the elements of Gothic literature and instill a sense of fear in the reader. One example is from “ The Cask of the Amontillado”, and it is set in a crypt. Also, “ The Prisoner of Chillon”, is set in a dungeon. A line from “ The prisoner of Chillon”, is “ We could not move a single pace, we could not see each others face.” This is telling how they were pinned up in the dungeon and what was going on trying to give you an image of the setting. Also, in “ The Cask of Amontillado”, a line from there says “ Walls had been lined with human remains, piled to the vault overhead”, and “ I heard the furious vibrations of the chain”. Those lines tell that it is placed in a crypt,
