The views on the morality of abortion differ between the Catholic Church and modern society. Over the years, there has been much discussion and disagreement about when life begins. Many religions believe that life begins at conception, while society believes it is much later in the pregnancy. Since the 1980’s abortions have decreased, but many people still have abortions. Modern society believes that abortion is acceptable and that the parents should have the right to terminate a pregnancy. The Catholic Church believes this is wrong and that all life is sacred. If pregnancy is not convenient or timely, some people should not have abortions because they are not ready for the responsibility of parenthood. God has told us that we shall not…show more content…
The couple feels that they have no choice but to terminate the pregnancy. This often leads to an abortion of the child. Society promotes the belief that the adult has the right to do as they wish with their body. The life of the baby is not considered as the parents make their choice. God’s plan is for human beings to keep a pure heart and a clean body. “Do you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, and not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The Bible clearly states that abortion goes against God’s plan for human perfection. Abortion destroys our body and soul. The act of abortion stains the image that God has created on us. God teaches us that all life is sacred. “You have heard that it was said to the men of old, ‘you shall not kill: and whoever shall be liable for judgment.’ But I say to you that everybody who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment.” (CCC). God tells us that all humans are created equal, including unborn babies, because they too are living humans. Society teaches us that the rights of the unborn are less important than the right of living people. Unborn babies have the same right to life as any living person. God has created humans for goodness and peace. When people go through an abortion, they are being violent, and are showing no goodness and love to God’s children.
