Oh my! What weird weather we have! Today it seems all I hear is people commenting, “Burr it’s so cold today,” or “How weird, it was raining yesterday and all of sudden it’s hot today.” Have you ever thought it may be global warming? Studies on global warming provide evidence such as, “Over 100 years the average temperature near the earth’s surface has risen less than 1 degree Celsius” (Lindinger, Karin). For many people in society it is hard to notice the slight changes in the weather. Everyday there are gases being released into the atmosphere by all human activity. These gases not only make the atmosphere, but help keep the earth’s temperature stable. By adding oxygen and taking away carbon dioxide this causes the earth to be cooler …show more content…
If the greenhouse effect gets stronger, it can raise the earth’s temperature drastically causing problems for plants, animals, and humans.
The globally average temperatures near the earth’s surface are rising and commonly discussed. Since the Industrial Revolution there has been another culprit. Human activities have added to the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere changing the climate in this century. For instance, in Wikipedia, scientist have gathered evidence that the “temperature rose by 0.74°C ±0.18°C over the period 1906–2005” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming#Temperature_changes). In addition, the satellite temperature measurements indicated that the lowest portion of earth's atmosphere, “The troposphere has increased between 0.12 and 0.22 °C (0.22 and 0.4 °F) per decade since 1979” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_temperature_measurements). In greater detail to the change of climate, the atmospheric carbon dioxide is increasing by human’s usage of carbon dioxide. For example, a source on the web stated, “There has been a climb in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere of about 280 ppm (parts per million) in 1850 to 364 ppm in 1998, mainly due to human activities during and after the industrial revolution” (http://www.lenntech.com. 2009). The cause of the high carbon dioxide in air is from the burning
