Climate change is the change of global or regional climate patterns that usually occur because of the rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Although many people disagree about climate changes existence it can be proven as a reality when the statistics are shown on how climate change can begin, how climate change is affecting our daily lives, and evidence that proves climate changes existence. First, to be able to fully understand how climate change works, one must comprehend how climate change can occur. Climate changes because it reacts to whatever forces it to change at the time. So that means that currently, our climate is being forced to becoming warmer because of the chemicals being put into its atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuels put hazardous gases such as carbon dioxide and methane into our atmosphere. These gases can also be classified as greenhouse gases, greenhouse gases are fumes that can trap heat in our atmosphere, thereby raising the temperature of our atmosphere. Many people don’t see a rise in temperature a bad thing, but the warmer and more acidic our climate gets the more habitats being destroyed and glaciers being melted. A climate can be defined as “the usual weather of a [particular] place…[to] include patterns of temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, and seasons” (State of Washington, n.d.), just to name a few. Climate differs from weather as a climate is comprised of the usual conditions of a given place (i.e. is it consistently humid, dry, wet, cool, etc.), while weather is the conditions present at a given place at any one time (i.e. it is raining, snowing, sunny, etc.). Climates are unique to individual places and generally stay the same over time, while weather can change by the day.

Climate change is the term used to describe the warming of the average surface temperature on earth. Climate change; often referred to as the general term global warming, is a topic that often inspires fierce debate among those on both sides of the issue. One thing those who are pro and those that are con both agree on is that the temperature on earth has increased over the past century by an average of 1.4 degrees. Greenhouse gases occur naturally, but in excess it could be harmful to the Earth. Composition of greenhouse gases traps heat from the sun, and this is what helps the Earth stay warm enough to sustain life.
