The Causes Of Climate Change

“Scientists’ overwhelming conclusion is that climate change is happening and human activity is the primary culprit,” (“Climate Change”). The world we live in is falling apart more and more every day. Pollution; Global Warming; Climate Change; These are all problems that caused by people who have come forward in recent years, one of the biggest issues is climate change. The United States government needs to take aggressive steps to combat climate change because scientist have warned that if the climate changing progresses at its current rate, it could have disastrous consequences for life on Earth. Data shows that climate change is linked to rising sea levels, droughts, an increase in the risk of extinction of many species, and the increase in severe storms. With all the issues that are connected to climate change we are not doing enough to try to counteract the lasting effects it has on our environment.

Climate change is known as one of the greatest threats to the planet. It is not only a threat to the planet environmentally, but it is a threat socially and economically. As we all could feel, see, and know, the weather patterns globally and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been increasing over an extended period of time. Although it may seem like it’s not a dramatic change since it is data from over a large amount of time, it is considering the fact that the large amount of time is not that large as it should be. Climate change is nothing new to us. It’s happened many years ago in the past because a variety of reasons but as the years go on, the rate on charts are just getting higher. As much as I would like to blame this predicament on nature, humans has a fault as well. We release thousands of greenhouse gases into the air through many procedures, but there are things that we cannot entirely control. However, whoever’s fault it is to blame I believe that if we work together and think we will more likely be able to find effective solutions for this problem.

“More than a million species face potential extinction as a result of disappearing habitats, changing ecosystems, and acidifying oceans” (Berger). Climate change affects all living things on the earth and is accelerating because of human activity. Climate change is happening right now, scientists are trying to figure out what is causing it, what the effects of climate change are, and they are researching how the atmosphere has changed.

Climate change is a real problem facing our world with all of the progression of today’s society. The amount of Greenhouse Gas emissions has gone up drastically in the past one hundred years alone. The use of transportation, industry, electricity and the deprivation of the world's natural resources has increased the amount of Carbon Dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. The Environmental Protection Agency has shown an increase in the Earth's temperature by 0.8 degrees C in the past century alone. It is proven that humans are the cause of global warming but it is not too late to change how we are.

Global warming is the steady heating of Earth’s land, oceans, and atmosphere caused primarily by human activity. Climate change is one of the world’s biggest challenges right now, from people actively arguing that it doesn’t exist- to other’s who don’t care enough to do anything about it. There’s evidence showing that climate change is happening and affecting our world now and from what it seems, if action isn’t taken, major consequences will soon arise. Most of the world’s land mass has experienced a 0.2-1.0 degree Celsius average temperature increase since the 1970s, the temperatures of the Artic has increased at almost twice the mean global rate. Climate change is caused by human factors such as greenhouse gases and ozone depletion and because humans are so dependent on fossil fuels in their day to day lives, the issue at hand is only going to get worse.

To understand climate change, one must understand what a climate is. A climate can be defined as “the usual weather of a [particular] place…[to] include patterns of temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, and seasons” (State of Washington, n.d.), just to name a few. Climate differs from weather as a climate is comprised of the usual conditions of a given place (i.e. is it consistently humid, dry, wet, cool, etc.), while weather is the conditions present at a given place at any one time (i.e. it is raining, snowing, sunny, etc.). Climates are unique to individual places and generally stay the same over time, while weather can change by the day.

In this 21-century climate change is becoming worse and worse. There is water levels are rising, animals in cold areas are starting to die because of the rises temperatures, and humans' health is being at risk, why because of human activities. The activities that humans mostly do is burning fossil fuels and deforestation.

Our world is changing. Not for the good, it’s getting worse. Within the last two hundred years our climate has been changing. Ever since the discovery of how useful nonrenewable resources are our climate has been gradually getting warmer. Climate change is threat with many consequences from the ecosystems that people live in all the way down to the evolution of species in the wild. There are many clear and present dangers in the world today, but climate change is of the most importance causing species to go explode in numbers, average temperatures to increase, uncontrollable forest fires, and the quality of air depleting.

Climate change is a global problem that is affecting Earth’s delicate ecosystem. Many problems are present in our world today, such as starvation, flooding, heat waves, droughts and disease. These issues are likely to worsen as climate change takes its toll. In the past, the cause of this severe climate change was unknown. Today, it is known that manmade climate change is occurring. Scientists have discovered that humans have had the greatest impact on the Earth’s ecosystem. Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, are causing the Earth to get hotter. Although humans are not the only cause of climate change, we contribute to this world wide problem because of the actions we take, which if affecting us now and will continue to affect us in the future.

Climate change is happening, like it or not and is affecting the world. Higher percentages of carbon dioxide(CO2) in the atmosphere is increasing due to human activities, greenhouse gases(GHG) and global warming have shown to have caused negative impacts on the environment and the world we live in. There are many causes of climate change, which cannot be entirely rid of. However, by taking steps in carbon emission industries, it can ensure a reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gasses.

Antarctic’s ice melt and accelerating sea level rise, the growing number of large wildfires, intense heat wave shocks, severe drought and blizzards, disrupted and decreased food supply, and extreme storm events are increasing to happen in many areas world wide and these are just some of the consequences of global warming. The fossil fuel we burn for energy coal, natural gas, and oil plus the loss of forests due to disforestation, in the southern hemisphere are all contributors for climate change. In the past three decades, every single year was warmer then the previous year and the warmest 12 years were recorded since 1998. We are overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and trapping the heat and

Climate change is a major issue that has been gaining political debate over the past few decades. According to Britain’s former Chief Scientific Advisor David King, climate change is “the most severe problem we are facing today—more serious even than the threat of terrorism” (Worldwatch.org). Research shows that the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere has been increasing at an alarming rate. This change has not only sparked the rapid melting of polar ice caps, which are subsequently raising sea levels, but it is also believed to be the cause of extreme weather patterns such as heat waves, droughts, and most recently, hurricanes. With the rise of sea levels being coupled with warmer temperatures, ideal conditions are created for hurricanes to not only form, but also greatly intensify. The general understanding many researchers have is that climate change is at least partially caused by human activity. Where the difference in opinions emerge, is how great of an effect humans have on global warming.

Climate change in today’s world has become of great concern due to its effects in the environment. Globally, climate change has greatly influenced ecosystems and the existence of organisms. This is further extending its effects to regional areas such as Kenya, whose ecosystem is not spared by the changing climate. Despite having natural causes, anthropogenic factors are widely increasing and causing climate change undisputed. Therefore, human activities are the main contributors of climate change leading to stress and ecosystem strain, to continue providing for its services. In this report I discuss summary of global climate change and regional focus on causes of climate change in Kenya, its effects in ecosystem especially on the natural ecosystems, current measures to curb the effects and the perception of the future ecosystem of the country.

We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has caused the earth’s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting. These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further raising the earth's temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires putting our society in more danger than ever before.

Climate change otherwise known as global warming has been an ongoing issue for decades. Beginning in the 19th century, climate change has increasingly affected Earth and its atmosphere. Rising levels of carbon dioxide are warming the Earth’s atmosphere, causing rising sea-levels, melting snow and ice, extreme fires and droughts, and intense rainfall and floods. Climate change has and will continue to affect food production, availability of water, and can add to many health risks in humans and animals. In fact, in an article by Justin Gillis titled, “Scientists Warn of Perilous Climate Shift Within Decades, Not Centuries” he focuses on a paper written by a former NASA climate scientist, James E. Hansen, explaining the effects of climate change on Earth today. Although many believe Hansen’s theories in the paper are quite far-fetched, the author mentions, “Despite any reservations they might have about the new paper, virtually all climate scientists agree with Dr. Hansen’s group that society is not moving fast enough to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, posing grave risks” (Gillis). Gillis validates the fact that climate change has been rapidly expanding throughout Earth and society has not been able to reduce it fast enough. Many negative risks are being posed and will continue to mount if the issue of climate change is not taken seriously.
