Whenever there is injustice or oppression, there is bound to be an uprising, either in the short-term or the long-term. Most wars and revolutions can be said to have come as a result of dissatisfaction or discrimination. This paper shall focus on various events in the American history, from the civil and revolutionary war, the war of 1812 and the Mexican-American war, the rise of American democracy and the war of black and white American abolitionists against slavery. These events have played a role in shaping America as we know it today. American Revolution and Civil War The American Revolution happened between 1775 and 1783 while the Civil War of America occurred between 1861 and 1865. The American Revolution started when Britain decided to increase taxes on previously tax-free commodities in an attempt to collect more revenue to pay off some of its war-debts. Also, the members of the thirteen colonies had to house and feed British troops whenever they set camp in their area. That directive by Britain gave rise to discord and grumblings within the territories. They saw it as unfair because they were struggling to hold their economies together even before the directive was given. In addition to the new laws, the British government decided to crack down on tax evaders and smugglers.
