The chapter of Varney the Vampire, or The Feast of Blood introduced the male vampire similar to how Dracula was described, and many other vampire stories. In this chapter, the vampire was described as having “pearly white teeth that glistened”, and extremely white skin. The chapter described the skin so white, that it was compared to the white sheet the girl had in the story. Also, it was stated how the creature was a tall figure. From the chapter one it says, “A figure tall gaunt, endeavoring from the outside to unclasp the window. I saw it. That flash of lightening revealed it to me. It stood the whole length of the mirror.” That exert describes the creature’s dominance, because being tall and having length is some type of dominance in its own way. The way the author, Thomas Preskett Prest, portrays this male vampire it by his dominance, and the power he has over people. The teeth are described a few times. I mentioned that they were first described as “pearly white teeth that glistened”, but the author will go on to say more about them. “the fearful looking teeth—projecting like those of some wild animal, hideously, glaringly white, and fang-like.” The teeth on this creature become concerning due to the fact that what he does with them. The author makes the teeth characteristic about the vampire because they are who he is, and that makes him scary. The way the vampire is introduced, he is supposed to be a terrifying and an unknown creature. Thomas Preskett Prest did not make him appealing at all, and he described as the monster he’s claimed to
