I strongly believe that studying Shakespeare is still relevant and always will be relevant in schools. Shakespeare made stories that are still told today and are even adapted into modern movies, Shakespeare’s Stories also share some same characteristics with this generation, including love, hate, and war. The language that he wrote has been seen in many modern day music and art. Firstly, most teenagers can relate to Shakespeare’s most famous story “Romeo and Juliet”. Both Romeo and Juliet go against what their parents say and their beliefs, which can be seen done by a lot of teenagers today. When Romeo and his friends go to a party, they take drugs and get intoxicated and go beyond what their parents think is right, and todays generation are doing the same, with drinking and taking drugs, which most parents tell their children not to do. There is also an impulsiveness to both the generations, Romeo and Juliet jump the gun and get married within a couple of weeks declaring their love for each other. When Romeo finds out that Juliet is “dead” he straight away goes to an apothecary and says “let me have a dram of poison” (5,1,3) to end his own life so he can lay with Juliet for eternity. He bases his actions entirely on his emotions at the time and not really thinking of the long term effect. Another instance where Romeo is impulsive is when Romeo’s best friend Mercutio jumps in front of him and gets stabbed by tybalt, Romeo is filled with rage and continues attacks and
Does love really conquer all or is it destiny who determines the lover’s fate? Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare, Play, is a story about two “star-crossed lovers” (Shakespeare Prologue.6) whose love is fatal because of their opposing families and misfortunate events lead the couple to their death. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses the motif of destiny to suggest that destiny is inevitable because everyone has their own fate for a reason which cannot be altered no matter the great lengths taken.
Montague's son Romeo in the book Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare in the 1500’s, supports the audience with many of his strengths and weaknesses. In this story, two well-known families of Verona, the Montagues, and Capulets are in a feud against each other; however, the son of the Montague family, Romeo, and the daughter of the Capulet family, Juliet fall in love at first sight at a Capulet party. Even though Romeo is a Montague, his personality and his calm behavior persuades Capulet to let him stay at the party. After he meets Juliet, Romeo asks the friar to marry them both; even though, the friar was concerned about Romeo because of his instantly changed and unthought decisions he lets them marry each other secretly. Romeo’s commendable behavior proves a strength and his uncontrollable emotions show his weakness.
I am heartbroken over the deaths of my master and friend, Romeo, Juliet, who brought Romeo great happiness, and county Paris, who I knew to be a very honorable man. I hope that this court session will bring justice for Romeo, Juliet, and Paris. To help bring this justice, I will truthfully tell you all that I know.

When analysing Romeo and Juliet it becomes apparent that while the two main characters’ lives were said to be predetermined by fate, it is Romeo's deep love for Juliet that acts as the catalyst that sets his fate into motion. Romeo was bound to love juliet but it was Romeo’s deep love for juliet that gets Romeo in to trouble. Additionally, Romeo gets to caught up in the one and only love of his life and when all the sudden it was gone he decided to kill himself. Although Romeo stated, “with love's light wings did I o’erperch these walls”( 2.2.73-75). This would prove that know matter what happens romeo will always go after Juliet/love Juliet. Ultimately, it is Romeo who is to romantic therefor creating the fate for himself and Juliet.
Shakespeare is dead. Shakespeare is not relevant in today’s times. It is very boring for students to listen to the material, and only a certain type of personality can appreciate Shakespeare.
William Shakespeare is regarded as one of the greatest poets and writers of his time and even one of the greatest ever with works such as Hamlet, Julius Caesar, and Romeo and Juliet. Although Shakespeare has been taught in schools for many years, and even all around the world, is Shakespeare's work really relevant for students in school today?
Parents usually protect us and guide us in the right direction, however in Romeo and Juliet’s case they were the catalyst that set into motion the sequence of events that caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The feud between the Montagues and Capulets, Lord Capulet’s forcing Juliet to wed Paris, and his haste to finalize it, had significant repercussions. Romeo and Juliet’s parents are to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
“For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.” This quote is the last lines of play Romeo & Juliet said from the Prince, that this was the saddest tragedy of them all. In this play Shakespeare has characterization techniques to show each character's traits. In William Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, the Nurse, Juliet, and Romeo have character traits that allow the reader to understand their complexity; they are the Nurse is funny, Juliet is loyal, and the Romeo is emotional. The Nurse, Juliet's caretaker, is a funny character, to mostly everyone she communicates with in the play.
“Love always overcomes hate, but love’s effects and hate’s effects are no different in magnitude.” -Anonymous. No one ever doubts the power of love or the power of hate. For as long as time has existed people have loved and people have hated. Strong emotions persuade everyone to act on their inhibition. Everyone wants to be a hero in every situation whether it be trying to save someone or the simple act of finding a winning lottery ticket. These actions are what lead to love overcoming hate even if they are the simplest of acts. The mistake people make is them trying to hard to be the hero. This leads to one traveling great lengths to achieve their goals, but at what cost. Throughout Shakespeare’s most famous play, Romeo and Juliet, his main
Character Traits of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet “There never was a more tragic story than of that of Juliet and her Romeo”, this is one of the most well-known lines in the play Romeo and Juliet. In this tragic play there were many interesting characters, but the most interesting of them all was Romeo. The play is centered on two lovers that want to be together forever, but the lovers are from two different feuding families. As part of a plan Juliet fakes her death, Romeo who was unaware of this plan sees Juliet unconscious.
First, one of Juliet’s strongest traits is how fast she can make decisions and how immature she can act, unlike Katherine who thought about how her actions could affect her. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet can be very naive through her actions, she showed this when she said, “Three words, dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If the fact thy bent of love be honourable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow” (4.3 141-143). Juliet believes that Romeo already loves her and wants to marry her after Rosaline broke-up with him only a few hours before. Unlike Juliet, Katherine doesn’t believe what everyone says as she proved here, “The more my wrong, the more his spite appears.
In Shakespeare, they were sufficiently skilled to comprehend what love is because it was love at first sight. Romeo is known as a tragic hero because he has all the heroic requirements.
Shakespeare does this by noting how Romeo and Juliet do not actually love each other. This is represented by Romeo and Juliets actions and rash decision making. Their decisions are very impulsive and rushed. As a result, it impacted them negatively in the future and as well as their relationship. Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other is not actually how love really is. They’ve mistakenly confused lust for love.
The play of Romeo and Juliet is different from William Shakespeare’s other tragedies in that there is not a clear distinction of individual heroes. The two protagonists are more passive than active; both are naïve and lacking understanding. The hero is often thought to be the romantic, yet often hysterical, Romeo. But Romeo’s immoral background, emotional outbursts, mishap murders, and foolish actions make him a poor candidate for a hero. Juliet proves to be more innocent than Romeo because she possesses more rigorous moral ethics. Juliet is also more successful in overcoming the obstacles that she is faced with throughout the play. While both characters
