What is the chemical composition/formula of it? (Is it ionic/molecular, neutral, and acid or a base?)
Caffeine (C8H10N4O2) is a molecular compound however it forms ionic bonds. It is an alkaloid which means that it is an organic nitrogen containing a base. Caffeine is only slightly basic.
Where is the compound/element found? Caffeine is found naturally in many trees and plants. Currently, environmental issues including deforestation, pesticide pollution, habitat destruction, soil and water degradation are in part due to the production and harvesting on modern day coffee farms and their surrounding areas.
How is it made?
Caffeine is often harvested in large coffee plantations where working conditions are poor and workers aren’t treated ethically. The working conditions are not up to code, as many workers, bath and prepare food from the same water, the men often sleep in temporary shelters, and many work with inadequate health care and education. Economically, coffee production in unfair, as many farmers have to sell their coffee for less money than it costs to produce it, and family farmers can sometimes only make an income of $300-$1000 annually.
Is it natural. Synthetic or both?
Caffeine can be synthetic or natural however, synthetic caffeine affects our bodies in different ways than naturally sourced caffeine does. Synthetic caffeine is made in a lab and it requires the synthesis of urea which is exposed to many harsh chemicals including methyl chloride and
