According to “The Clan of One-Breasted Women,” by Terry Tempest Williams, she discusses how cancer runs in her family. The type of cancer that runs in her family was breast cancer, however her mother, grandmothers, and six aunts all had mastectomies and that lead them to death. Just two of them survive, but they still need to go to chemotherapy and radiation to get check ups. Williams even had her own difficulty with breast cancer and a small tumor within her ribs. She talks about how you can get breast cancer and it’s for these reasons; the risk of percentages with more fatty diets, or getting pregnant after 30 years old. I personally agree with Williams when she states about “Tolerating blind obedience in the name of patriotism or religion ultimately takes our lives,” because she had proof about nuclear tried caused cancer and have killed a large amount of women in her family. Throughout her writing she was standing up for all the people she known that had cancer, she also knew that some of the people were tested with nuclear in Nevada. For instance, Mrs. Allen was on the listed for the 24 test cases from the United States government, and then William found out that her husband passed away from pancreatic cancer in 1978. This just proves her point that the government or nobody else cares about women or men passing away from cancer. So, she just understand by her faith that the environment doesn’t care.
