The Coca-Cola Company The Coca-Cola Company is one of the most famous industries throughout the world. It is known for its main product, Coca-Cola, which was invented in 1886 by John Smith Pemberton. The company has grown tremendously since 1892 when it was bought by Asa Griggs Candler. It has become the world 's largest manufacturer, distributer, and marketer of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups. The Coca-Cola Company has been involved with popular music, movies, and commercials for years. People are still able to enjoy the company 's achievements over the years at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia. (The Coca-Cola Company) In 1869, John Smith Pemberton decided to experiment with extracts of the coca leaf and kola nut, initially marketing a health drink known as "French Wine Coca." A partner of Pemberton gave him the idea of the name Coca-Cola and also registered the famous script logo of the product. Coca-Cola was first sold for 5 cents per glass. During the first year of selling the product, sales averaged 9 servings a day in Atlanta, Georgia. Today, sales average 1.9 billion servings a day worldwide. The small company grew after being acquired by Asa Griggs Candler between 1889 and 1891. Candler was a very successful druggist and businessman. His strategy was to mix the Coca-Cola 's syrup with carbonated water at the soda fountain.
