My area of study is in education. The code of ethics for education falls into three different categories, ethical conduct towards the students, ethical conduct practices, and ethical conduct towards colleagues. Educators have a moral responsibility to have a learning environment that fulfills and helps their students reach their full potential. According to the Code of Educators, “The professional educator accepts personal responsibility for teaching students character qualities that will help them evaluate the consequences of and accept the responsibility for their actions and choices.” (Code of Ethics fo Educators, 1994) I am going to focus on the responsibility that the students and educators have in online distance education. The Kantian theory concentrates on the moral responsibility to do good, while utilitarianism in education concentrates on the good of the everyone, even though not everyone lives by a code of ethics, students and teachers have a moral obligation to do so, because teachers have to discipline students, should use the listening process, and I believe every student should have an ethical code that they live by.
Kantian Theory According to the Kantian theory both students and educators have a moral responsibility to do good. The honor code in distance education says that each student is who they say they are and they will do good according to the Kantian theory.
