Mask Many people tend to put on a “mask” to hide their true self. People will act differently to fit in or acquire something. A mask allows for a person to hide their true self and often times helps people deceive others. In the play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth put on a mask to hide her cruel, manipulative, and greedy self. Over the course of the play, Lady Macbeth changes, in the mask the color changes from black to red. This represents Lady Macbeth's change that occurs within her, it starts off dark black than red and fades into a pink/white. These colors show how in the beginning she was ruthless and dark, she unsexed herself to be able to go through with such a cruel plan. It then starts to change into a red, this shows how the murder is starting

Masks have held countless uses and meanings throughout history. Masks have been used in plays, like those of Shakespeare, traditional dances, social gatherings, even as a form of casual or corporal punishment. Although masks have several different uses in different cultural situations, the meaning of the masks is generally the same. Masks are used to conceal an appearance and assume the identity of another. Metaphorically, masks can be used to hide feelings, to protect oneself, and to block out the outside world. Many of these examples are shown in Art Speigelman 's Maus.
In the poem ‘we wear a mask’ it mentions, “we wear the mask, that grins and lies.” (Dunbar,23). This quote uses the mask to symbolize the smile that's fake and hides the truth, ultimately, personification can be used to relate to the audience on a personal level. As he obtains the position of Thane of Cawdor, he beings to change for the worse. Macbeth changes over the course of the play because he believes that he is becoming more independent and stronger, but in reality, he is actually becoming weaker, more insane, and corrupt.
The true color of lady macbeth is back, red, and white. All of these color represent her feeling and mental state. Black representing her darkness and power. Red represent her madness and her drowning in guilt throughout the play. Finally white is when she gone crazy but changes and losses herself in her own guilt and then kill herself. A mask can completely transform how others see you, so a mask is a really big deal. Masks have many different purposes, however. Some others may not notice and some may be obvious.
Throughout Macbeth, the meaning of the word dark changes from physical darkness to metaphoric death as it portrays the overall theme that death is inevitable. In Act 1, the word dark and similarly, black, is used to describe the literal absence of light and the dark actions to follow in the play. Both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth use the word to show that they are hiding their desires to end Duncan’s life. Macbeth spoke, “Let not light see my black and deep desires” (4.51) and Lady Macbeth added, “Nor heaven peep through the blanket of dark,” (5.52).
Macbeth’s whole demeanor and mindset changes over the course of the play. Macbeth was very loyal to king Duncan and showed him respect. Macbeth’s wife, Lady Macbeth convinces him that he should kill the king but Macbeth had doubts about it. Killing king Duncan was never on Macbeth’s mind to, but Lady Macbeth called him a coward and further convinced him to kill king Duncan. After the killing, Macbeth faces hallucinations, guilty feelings, and fear which made it hard for him to sleep.
‘Macbeth’ is a play by William Shakespeare that shows a protagonist going from bad to worse throughout the play. Shakespeare wrote this play, taking in mind current affairs at the time of 1603-1606. This is the time when a Scottish king, James I was given the English crown. This king was obsessed with witches, so Shakespeare brought this theme strongly into the play. It also brings the theme of treachery towards the King. This pleased King James and also pleased him about showing the line of Stuart Kings, James descendants, in Act 4, Scene 1.
Macbeth begins to feel guilty, isolated, scared, and ashamed for killing Banquo, much like the human figure in the painting. In the picture, the person is losing the color from the inside of their body, and is bandaged to show past affliction. This person also seems to be in isolation, and covering their head in either fear or shame. The colors are grey and gloomy around them, and there is still color left in their body. Without the creation of the three witches by Shakespeare, Macbeth’s downfall would have happened more gradually, and possibly completely differently.
The world is full of people wearing masks. These masks come in innumerable different shapes, sizes, and colors. A mask might be the happy face a little girl forces as she walks down the hall after being bullied, the bravery a small child pretends to have after the death of their Grandpa, or any number of different situations. This idea of masks is exemplified by the characters in Hamlet. Hamlet is the story of a young man after his father, the king, is found dead.

Out of the four Shakespearean play categories, it is categorized as a tragedy, as the events of the play ultimately lead to the downfall of the protagonist, Macbeth. The theme of appearance versus reality is constantly repeated throughout the play, as it greatly contributes to the development of the plot. The idea is constantly conveyed by the characters using a pleasant and innocent appearance to gain the trust of others and to conceal the disturbing reality of dark thoughts within. My mask represents a lot of who I am and who I pretend to be. On the outside, I described other people’s views of who I am. On the inside, I described who I really am. For starters, I wrote the word “Blondie” on the top center portion of my mask because that is one thing that people always base my intelligence on. They assume that, because I am blonde, I am not very smart.
