The Roman Republic was the Government in Rome. This Roman Republic was somewhat meeting the common good. Some of the purposes of government were Public Services, Protect Rights, and Prepare for Common Defense.
Provide Public Services When it came to public services the Roman Republic would earn an A. Provide public services earned an A because, the government provided free entertainment to anyone. Most of this entertainment took place in the colosseum. The Colosseum was a huge Roman building that could hold over 50,000 people at once. This building had several different levels. They would earn a C because , though they treated citizens well, only wealthy men could be citizens. Before one became a gladiator they were most likely a slave or prisoner. Not all gladiators are the same, there are three types of gladiators. There are the samnite, sector, and retiarius. The retiarius used a trident and a net in their fights. The sector had a specialized helmet. Some slaves weren’t as lucky and stayed slaves. In Rome slavery was a normal thing. Many of the households owned at least one slave. The job of a slave was to do all the work the owner didn’t want to couldn’t do. Most slaves were take when Rome conquered their homes and didn’t have any choice but to go. Slaves were like toys for some people. When their owner was done with them, the slaves would be poot up for sale. They had a sign around their neck that had details about them written on it. Slaves were with few rights and no say in what happened in Rome. Eventually if they earned enough money the slaves could be their freedom. The rulers in Rome were the Patricians. Only certain families were patricians. In order to be one you had to be born one. Though they had the majority of the power, there was only a small percentage of patricians. Any other citizens were plebians. The plebeians were farmers, craftsmen, laborers, and soldiers. Rome did not protect everyone’s rights. If they did they would have been a better
